Trolling speed

I was wondering if anyone has some good tips/tricks for slowing my trolling speed when trying to to troll with my gas motor. I have a an Impact 1775 with a 115 Pro XS four-stroke. 2.8mph is about as slow as i can get it to go. Could a guy use something like a drift sock for trolling?

get the biggest drift sock you can find, hook it in the front eye, and backtroll... or drift with a sock or socks out the side...

and tell santa you REALLY need an electric trolling motor for Christmas...

Quite FN around and get a kicker. I use mine all the time and steer with trolling motor up front.

I should clarify.... i do have a trolling motor and it works great but I ran out of battery by Sunday at noon. Primitive camping so no way to charge

If you can figure out a way to get batteries charged, I just turn my trolling motor backwards. Works against big motor and slows down nicely. Usually run it on 3-4 speed on the ulterra

Same boat, same motor, I use the chute. Tie it off right there at the drivers side cleat real short. Will get ya much slower than needed depending on size of bag i guess. If there's mega wind, forget the chute, troll right into the bastards. When all else fails jump in your buddys boat that has a kicker, it's easier lol. You'll find the juice isn't worth the squeze imo. Although I have had some damn rediculous days with cranks.

The tm v big motor seems like a huge solution to a small problem imho especially if one of your problems is lack of juice.

It all else fails drag a 5 gallon bucket in the water. I've used this in a pinch slows you down a bit just a bitch to bring it back into the boat.

I've got a 2019 Lund 1875 Impact XS with the 150 Pro XS...pull cranks using big motor all the time - I use 2 5 gallon buckets...drilled about 20 holes in each one...hook one off both side cleats...keep motor trimmed all the way down...trolling motor in water...on flat water can troll at about 2.0mph...into wind 1.6mph...with wind 2.4mph. Works pretty slick. I've also considered jumping up to 31 series AGMs for the trolling motor batteries...currently have 2 27 series Interstates...on windy days if I use trolling motor to pull cranks at 2mph batteries done after 5 to 6 hours.

I have group 31 interstates, I would guess we get about 10-12 hours of use out of a full charge but I mostly troll live bait around .8-1.6mph

get the batteries on a charger ---- to help them live longer. Maybe even a solar trickle

5 gallon bucket on a short rope works great and is cheap. Used to do that all the time before I had a kicker. Could drop a 115hp 2-stroke down to around 2 mph.

It’s actually really easy if you are using the main motor. Back troll. And throw a bag out the front for better control. If the waves are too big to do that they’re generally big enough to troll into and they will reduce your speed

Get a Mercury troll control (8m008349) Make sure it has the y cable to plug in the harness under your dash. This works very well. You are welcome.

Maybe get a generator to plug a battery charger into. Then you'd have power at your campsite for other stuff if needed as well.
That's probably the route I'd go in this situation.

I have a generator buts kinda big, clumsy, and noisy but thats gonna be my solution for now...
