trouble with fuses in polaris ranger

good day all. I'm new to this site and I hope all are enjoying this ice fishing season. I have a 2010 polaris ranger 800 with tracks, cab, ect... Anyway, I keep blowing my fuse that runs my all wheel drive. I have a 12 volt defrost heater plugged in and every time it is running the fuse keeps going out. never had that problem last year. I know absolutely NOTHING about anything that has to do with the ranger. I put gas in it and fish that's it. I did find out that the fuse is the 15 watt/volt/whatever it is on the fuse box.

My question is can I replace the 15 with something bigger so I can run my 12volt defroster?

simple answer is install a heater, which I'm gonna do more than likely very soon, but how the hell do I up the watts/volts/whatamadinger thingy so my all wheel drive works along with the 12volt defroster?

the 15 is amps. the fuse size is determined by the size of the wire it protects. if you put a bigger fuse in there you will more than likely burn up something else in the circuit. Sounds as though your heater is on the same circuit and pulls too much current for the 15 amp circuit. You need to check out how many amps that heater pulls. Then I would run a wire from that heater direct to the battery with the suitable inline fuse in that hot wire.

Dont own one, But basic electrical safety says no. The fuse protects the WIRE. The wire is not sized enough to handle more than 15 Amps and the heater is drawing more than that when used. I'm not sure why the AWD and the 12v accessory plug would be on the the same fuse, but if that is indeed the case, the easiest thing to do would be to install a separate 12v plug that comes from the battery posts, or wire the heater directly to the battery.

If the heater has a high and a low, you could try the low setting to get you by. Some of those little defrosters are pretty high wattage. Watts divided by Volts (12) gives you the amperage.

thanks for the input. very much appreciate it. after I wrote that post, all of 1 hour ago, I said piss on it and ordered a heater kit for the ranger. figured i better just do it since I have been buried twice this year without all wheel drive when the fuse goes out hahaha. thanks again!!!

Run a separate 12 volt plug for your heater as stated above and put an inline fuse in it too.
As for why it worked last year and not this year can't say for sure. Guessing more snow and you have some moisture getting in your 4 wheel drive somewhere. Did you try bringing it into a heated garage and letting it thaw out?
