What's the solution to the national debt problem without cuts?
Cuts, but ones that actually accomplish savings. There are military bases that contract out “security” for huge dollars. The MP’s can’t do it? The government is full of IT and cyber folks, why do we spend millions contracting out so much on IT?

Like I’ve said before, you could fire every single federal employee and it would save 4% of the entire budget, which after inflation were right back where we started. I’d like to be able to trust that the government is staffed to actually do what they need to do. You want to save money, it’s in the bullshit contracts.

The contracts are something else and these contractors know the business and the buddy system. At a missle silo they were dismantling a communication tower so I asked the civilian engineer what they were going to do with it. He said move it like 50 feet or something and pointed to a new satellite dish they had just installed and there was interference from the tower and it was cheaper to move the tower than the dish.

I was never inside the fence so didn't have to swear to security but pretty cool the operations they have, The first day I'm drilling away right beside the fence and glance up and 50 feet away two well armed guards taking their dog for a walk around the fence and right past me , then every day at at 1600.

The people that should be losing their jobs are the ones making these decisions. The fat office clowns making the big bucks would rather eliminate the people running these sites then lose their own salaries. Doge should have made the cuts themselves rather then let the directors decide who gets the axe! The COE is one of the most corrupted government agencies.
DOGE is retarded, anyone still supporting it is dumber yet. Gotta dig past headlines and outlandish claims

Totten, Wolf Creek and Beaver are all fee camping. Not sure about others. I'm genuinely interested to know how expenses compare to revenues.

Totten for example:
30 electric and 10 primitive sites
Open approximately 120 days/season
Assume 60% occupancy
$26/night electric, $12/night primitive
(120 days x 60%) x ((30 x $26) + (10 x $12)) = $64,800/season

What does that actually mean? Are they blocking people from using those public lands or are they stating that no services or amenities will be available? Can people still camp there, but the fish cleaning station and electrical hookups won't be working as an example.
If a person can still camp at the sites and it's only closing showers etc I see it as legitimate, but if you can't camp it's simply vindictive.

Problem with staffing the parks is doge took the low hanging fruit first to show quick results. Those were the temps and probationary employees. Most park type jobs are temporary or probationary to work your way up. Computer geeks aren’t really known for seeing the big picture. And while AI can take over a lot of the jobs people do, it can’t get up and go clean a toilet. Yet anyway.

We are all at this point in the year, still working for the government. IE covering our tax liabilities. And it turns out some of our group is just fucking fine with that.
Hang in there just another 2 months and you will finally be working for yourself, until the Jan 1 reset.

June 12th
Tax Freedom Day in 2025 is projected to hit June 12th, which is the latest date this century. This date represents when the average American has earned enough income to pay their annual tax burden.

Might be an interesting court case if some responsible, law-abiding, neat and tidy, non-littering recreationalists decide to recreate on public property thats specifically designated for recreation.

Between the Chevron decision and the inaction regarding the "Water Protectors" the ACOE, forest service, nat'l grassland rangers might not be in a position to hassle folks responsibly recreating on public land.

Obama was kind enough to allow the protesters to stay by not letting the corps, sheriff, or guard enforce trespassing. I have a feeling the current man in charge isn’t so accommodating.

I don't think the current administration going to allow retained employees to stand in the way of recreationalists recreating on land specifically designated for recreation.

I guess we’ll see. I’d also guess that if someone pitched a tent and cleaned up when they left, there’d be no issue. “Don’t start nothin, won’t be nothin”.
