Just looked it appears all 8,000 acres were up for sale before this shit storm started either as a whole thing or two sections. If the company is smart they will do some sort of give it to the state as a recreation site type of deal to get some good public relations.

Tell you one thing I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a boat ramp right about there! Although odds are they will give it to the tribe.

Ha Ha maybe they can build a refinery there like chase iron eyes wants.

I can not believe that nobody has brought up the fact of there being a full blown OIL REFINERY RIGHT ON THE RIVER NORTH OF BISMARCK AND MANDAN AND WE ALL STILL HAVE GOOD WATER TO DRINK AND HAS BEEN NO OIL SPILLS THERE!!!!!!!.

That's not necessarily true.

http://www.ndhealth.gov/wm/Hazardou...dFacilities/TesoroMandanRefineryFactSheet.pdf

The RFA of July 1989 identified 44 solid waste management units (SWMUs.) Since then, two additional SWMUs and four areas of concerns (AOCs) have been identified.

Environmental monitoring and groundwater investigations were initiated at the Tesoro refinery in 1976. At this time, there are about 200 groundwater monitoring wells on the refinery property. Through past investigations, it was determined that there was facility-wide contamination. The 1989 RFA documented releases from 15 SWMUs. A RCRA Comprehensive Ground Water Monitoring Evaluation (CME) was conducted in 1991 (Phase I) and 1992 (Phase II). The CME indicates that a total of 11 hydrocarbon plumes have been identified on the refinery property. These plumes are roughly located in the following areas: along the eastern boundary of the refinery, below the storage tank farm, east of the storage tank farm, west of the aerobic lagoon, and north of the north landfill area.

Thats a lot different than an oil spill and most likely pails in comparison the the BNSF fuel farm leaks along main street in Mandan.
Heck i bet if one tested the ground underneath the gas station that the tribal chairman owns down there results would come back much the same.

Now did they sell just a small chunk of land or the whole damn ranch. That is one big ass ranch for it to all be sole. For those who have never been to this spot it's primarily prairie dog towns and buffalo pens. I keep hoping some of the protesters get a bit to close to the sacred animals and find out just how much they give a shit about their pipline protest! As for posting the Cannonball ranch stuff is always posted.

Everyone in the state, mostly the state and county should protest giving land to the tribe. Tribal land is not taxed, leaving those maintenance expenses the responsibility of the rest to the county residents. Never figured out how so many others are responsible for the expenses of a "Sovereign Nation." Guess I need to look up the definition of sovereign.

Some of the tribes get to make capital purchases like vehicles tax free as well if they are a registered member of certain tribal nations, they just need to take ownership of it on tribal land to be legal.

Since the company now owns the grazing rights to where the camp is at i wonder if they have any power to move and or fine the campers?

But it's not that simple because they are destroying an area and the plants the company has paid for reducing the value of the range. They are already in violation of a number of corp rules and this has to give the company some leverage in this thing. Why do you think the Corp didnt give permission to camp on the north side of the river. They likely knew this was coming down and we're preparing for it.

Why would the pipeline give that land(the cannonball ranch) to the tribe? That would make absolutely no sense. After the shit storm the tribe is causeing for the pipeline.

Makes perfect since if they can appease the tribe with offer of this sacred land after the line is in. Remember this is a PR battle now and this would make them look better if they did and could (albeit snowball's chance in hell at this point)get the tribe to back down saving them many times more then what's already been spent. Problem is the tribe has pushed it's chips in too far with to many watching to back down. Ask yourself this if there was only that small camp and no one else watching you think the tribe wouldn't have jumped at this vs trying to protest. This sort of thing is done all the time and will give them a double edged sword where they have more power in the court fight and the ace in the whole of an olive branch to improve their image as the fight culminates!

Put the cap back on the pain killers, dean.

Realy sort of like when I said this was going to blow up out of control and very likely get violent if they don't get theirid way. Funny since just today the organizer of the camp said they would use any and all means necessary to stop the pipeline from ever crossing the river. Did those bandana wearing thugs you saw on the gravel road look like they were just out for a country cruise? Wait till they loose because they will go nuts. This pipeline company just bought 6000 + Acres of land they don't need and very well cant legally own so they will have to dump it soon or sue ND to keep it or be forced do use it for some sort of gigantic Industrial use. So what are they going to do.... well theres pretty much the only two valid options. Option one hold onto it just long enough to win all their battles and then sell it off or two hold on to it just long enough to win their Court battles but make it known that they plan to donate it to some sort of cause which apparently can't legally be conservation without Governor approval!

First, "lose. Not loose." Secondly, how do you expect them to donate taxable land to the tribe, which now becomes non-taxable land? They'd basically be deeding a portion of the US to a foreign nation. How do you think the residents of Morton county would take that? As far as the goons thinking they're headed to a 99%'ers rally, they're in the area for shock value. I dare the protest to come into Bismarck like they're doing in Charlotte. Not many people living here are going to shudder their windows and hope the bad people go away.

The purchased land is a chess piece that the dapl acquired and will sell to recoup losses created by the very people you think they'll gift it to. And if I'm wrong, oh well. Won't be the first or last time. But I have a pretty good feeling it won't happen. You seem like an educated fella; what's the going rate for that land?

As of yesterday 5 million. Not saying that I think that's their full on game plan but talking it out with my buddy a high-end ivy league land lawyer that moved to North Dakota a few years ago because he likes ducks the donating and or preserving the land in some fashion is the obvious play. Just buying the land gains them little in the legal battle over what they already had. As far as legalities of giving it to a Native American tribe good luck fighting that one in court theoretically it was already deeded to them in 1868 in the Treaty of Fort Laramie.

As for them coming to town and pulling a BLM that would be literally a dream come true because like said and everyone on here knows that shit would not fly here. The second they start looting burning or trying to hurt people they're going to figure out very quickly that about every fourth person here in the city qualifies as a sniper by the average Americans viewpoint.

6000ac worth of however many pigs, hogs, and brood boars accidentally getting loose from the trucks might could make a fair mess of things.

A truckload of estrus cows and 10-15 breeding bulls accidentally delivered to the wrong side of the road in the middle of the night could make things sporty as well.

Oh they could have way more fun then that...that camp sits on their grazing rights and that ranch is a buffalo ranch. I would thoroughly enjoy watching one ton living bulldozers go flying through that camp.
