Why are bottom bouncers ...

I was wondering that myself, did a little research and it seems there are mixed opinions. Theres some video footage of fish coming in and hitting the bouncer and then taking off, so some people think its best to leave them unpainted or paint them a dark color. Sounds like some others think of them like a flasher when fishing for salmon, bright color might get them to the area and then theyd be more likely to hit your spinner/bait. Not sure anyone has done a double blind scientific trial on it though, unfortunately. I painted mine a dark color just because I like the look and then the lead wont oxidize and look crappy as soon.

I wonder if it's the vibration of the BB hitting the bottom that causes them to get hit, not visual. Like ticking a crank off the rocks.....

Skipped 4 pages but 3 of us went to a friend's wedding in Bismarck years back (former or current member here possibly), decided to pull the boat along, brought leeches from dl and threw out bb's while every other boat was out 15-20 ft deeper pulling cranks and we put on a show on 17-20"ers. Tried hiding the big lead as well as we possibly could but always a great maiden voyage memory stuck in my noggin.

Looks of whatthefuckery on their faces was priceless.

I think the wire on the bottom attracts them from farther away, but color could still play into them biting the weight or not probably. At least thats what Id think, maybe more in discolored water with bright colored weights.
