I do not plan to EVER return to PKC. First thing that bothers me there is the smoke smell.....(cough, cough). I can only take it on the floor for about and hour or two at the most before I need to take a break and get out of there. Second thing that I was upset was about the refusal of the Tribal Council to allow members to vote in regards to the UND Sioux nickname after other tribes were allowed to vote and keep the name. And now this whole DAPL protest mess. This was a complete $hit$how created by Chairman Archambault. He has yet to accept any responsibility to this whole thing. All he did was promote and encourage it when finally he had an epiphany to the facts that the camp was going to flood this spring and that after the election he knew there was nothing stopping it.

So in my books, one, two, three strikes.....you out! PKC needs to close their doors. They sure are trying to get people to come back with all the new marketing commercials they have on TV.

Anyone else notice the Unicorn Riot sure doesn't get on the BIA much about clearing the camps. But they sure were all over Morton County, State and ATF/FBI clearing the camps off the reservation. I sure hope they are close to getting the pipe in the ground. I heard they could flow oil as soon as next week. But on the flip side. Take your time, do it right so that there is no accidental release.

Lastly, I wonder if those who filed the court injunction realize that their argument holds "no water" (no pun intended, but does sound good). To stop the flow of oil because it threatens there right to religious practice of use of the water. Really!!!! When was the last time you anyone saw the tribe holding pow wow or any other ceremony down along the river. Plus do they not know how many other pipes cross the river upstream??? Oh well, like they say...can't fix stupid!!!

You guys do realize the PKC does A LOT of business in good ole Bismarck ND right?? The advertising alone is huge. They have all kinds of venders that are making bank down here. Not to mention there are quite of few positions filled by nonnatives from Bismarck. Plus the employees have tried and tried to hamstring the damn protesters from the start. Daply Dave scared the bigwigs in charge of the Casino last year so they didn't know how to treat the protesters at first. They were hesitant about how many they let just sit around out there, and how fast to call security in certain situations. They started implementing policies that would deter protesters, which made them mad at times. Its getting better, but they have a lot of remodeling to do to get rid of the stink in the rooms.

I've said all along the the "Black Snake" IS THE PROTEST, not the pipeline.

If they would have kept the shit at the site and not brought it to Bismarck and Mandan they would not have alienated so many of the Bismarck and Mandan residents.

It was the tribal leaders that called out to bring all these protestors here in the first place and as long as they benefit from the casino many people like myself will not be spending our dollars there.

A friends dad had a saying years ago which applies in this case Don't shit where you eat..

I second Paddledogger. After how they railroaded UND and Spirit Lake and didnt allow a vote ( spirit lake overwhelmingly voted to keep the sioux nickname), now this protest boondoggle....They have made their bed.

If you shoot yourself in the foot over and over and over again, eventually its time to amputate the leg. They have nobody to blame but themselves.

The way they allowed our law enforcement officers to become the scape goat and the hell they put them through is a wound that will not heal any time soon for allot of people and will never heal for others. As for jobs and sales that's a bit of a moot point since any new casino would have the same if not larger effect on the economy.

When the protestors ( eco-terrorists) came most on the Rez were fine with it and happy that they showed up. Well you asked for it now you got it. F**k with the bull and get the horn! If they don't like it vote Dapl Dave out of office and put in new elders to rule the Rez.

I dont blame the casino for anything --- it provides a source of income that would need to come from the federallys (your pocket books)(f it didnt exist. I had that opinion at first but changed when i seen it was all out of staters. They do need to get the bridge open.

You know as well as all the rest of us that DAPL Dave would drown your mother if it would make him a dollar. The ONLY reason his tune has changed is because The Dark One lost the election. He and his ilk can't instigate all this shit and expect the rest of the state to say "it's not The tribes' fault."

Yes, a lot of innocent people are going to have to pay for the transgressions of a few. Continuing to prop up PKC will only encourage them to do this shit again. We can't look the other way. The levy has already broken. #DrainTheRez

North Dakota Could See Big Revenue Boost from DAPL completion

North Dakota stands to gain more than $110 million annually in tax revenue after oil begins coursing through the Dakota Access pipeline, an analysis by The Associated Press shows. The calculation shows the potential payoff for a state whose officials have supported the pipeline despite concerns from Native American tribes and other opponents who fear it could harm drinking water and sacred sites. The money the state stands to make in just one year far outstrips the $33 million in costs to police a section of the pipeline that's been the subject of intense and sometimes violent protests over the last year.
"The amount of the windfall to the state doesn't surprise me at all," said Payu Harris, an American Indian activist and pipeline opponent. "That's why the state of North Dakota expended the resources they did."
Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners' $3.8 billion pipeline will carry oil more than 1,000 miles to a shipping point in Illinois and may be moving oil as early as next week. Its completion would be welcome both for drillers seeking a cheaper path to market and for the state government in North Dakota, where declining tax revenue has clouded its budget. "Every dollar they get extra is good for the state as well," state tax commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger said. State budget analysts and an economic consulting firm working on the revenue forecast that lawmakers will use to create a spending plan for the next two years may take the potential tax benefits into account, State Budget Director Pam Sharp said. The new forecast will be released next week.
North Dakota in the past decade has become the second-biggest oil producer in the United States, behind Texas. But its location in the northern Plains, far from major oil markets, means less profit on each barrel of oil. North Dakota lowers its tax on each barrel to keep its crude competitive with other states.
Much of North Dakota's oil is shipped by truck or train. The 1,200 Dakota Access pipeline would carry the oil through South Dakota and Iowa to a shipping point in Illinois. It could shave shipping costs by more than $3 a barrel, according to Ron Ness, president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council. State tax officials estimate every dollar saved means about $33.6 million in added tax revenue each year. "Every dollar back is a win for producers, the state and mineral owners," said Ness, who called the Dakota Access pipeline the most important infrastructure project in North Dakota since the interstate highway system.
It also will link to pipelines serving Gulf Coast refineries, which pay premium prices for high quality sweet crude like that drilled in North Dakota.
In addition to oil tax revenue, the pipeline is estimated to generate $55 million in property taxes annually in the four states it crosses, including more than $10 million a year in North Dakota, said Rauschenberger, the state tax commissioner.
That will provide much-needed revenue to rural counties, he said.
"It's going to benefit schools and counties and more valuation means lower property tax bills for everybody," Rauschenberger said.

The pipeline was first announced in 2014, days after then-Gov. Jack Dalrymple, a Republican, urged that more oil and gas pipelines be built to reduce hazardous truck and oil train traffic and to curb the flaring — or burning off — of natural gas at wellheads.

Dakota Access sailed through the state's approval process, only to run into resistance from the Standing Rock Sioux, whose reservation straddling the North Dakota-South Dakota border is near the pipeline's route. The Standing Rock Sioux and other tribes urged the U.S. government not to allow the project to move forward and fought the pipeline in court and with protests at a nearby encampment on federal land that at times grew to include thousands of people.

The opponents were dealt a devastating setback in January when President Donald Trump signed an executive order to advance the pipeline's construction. The Army subsequently gave approval for ETP to put the last final big chunk of pipe under a Missouri River reservoir near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The Army has authority over that stretch because its Corps of Engineers manages the Missouri River.

Authorities last week cleared the last vestiges of the protest camp ahead of spring flooding, although the Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Sioux continue to fight the project in court.

This fall the thing I always found the most telling was that I often would be within just a mile or two of the protest camps at there peak numbers yet if I wasn't on the paved roads it was like nothing was happening. Met more then one truck of hunters both native and white who all seemed to view standing rocks version of burning man from the same perspective. Everyone knew even back in oct that no matter how the fight worked out the people of standing rock would end up being the biggest losers in this fight. You can't alienate the next door neighbors without having repercussions long after the fight is over.....and let's be honest when your neighbors hold all the cards in the deck it needless to say is stacked against you. Should they have stood up and let there voice be heard above all the rest of the noise sure but let's not forget even us on this website had to be careful about what we would say because of possible repercussions let alone being literally surrounded by the troublemakers and not just something we watched on TV. I for one am most interested to watch how the next few months to a couple years play out for the key people in this particular endeavor with particular focus on DAPL Dave and psycho bitch from the sacred Stone camp not to mention dick lick Iron Eyes! The reservation is very good at metering out their own Justice weather on the books or far too often off. Either way it definitely made for a shit ton to talk about during what would normally be a crazy boring time on here.

If your truly honest with yourself and even marginally aware of the repercussions of the actions that we all lament the members of Standing Rock not taking it at least for me is hard to say I would have done differently then they. That is a group of people that by our hand and even more so their own hands have been marginalized their entire lives and many of them found to survive the best thing you can do is duck and cover and to make no waves that break against the native side of the shore. That may be the worng mindset to have and one quite foreign to many of us but it's the way many have made it this far.....it's also the reason they have gone no further but that a debate is one for later. For me in the end other then what's her ass and iron eyes i have no ill will when I meet a new person from down there till they give me reason to.....hell that would be like hating people from Grand forks just because so many there are over the top Democrats with an extraordinary limited grip on reality! So just don't lump them into one group or all we end up with is more pent-up animosity when in reality it's probably just better to let it go and move on.....for Christ sare we fucking won in the end.

Sorry to be preachy and even if find myself generalizing them as a group even though I know it's not correct.

yea sure we "won". what is the dollar amount at so far it's cost nd taxpayers?

- - - Updated - - -

I have little patience for people that refuse to speak up for themselves too especially in a place as small as srt, so that argument is moot with me as well

- - - Updated - - -

if there truly is/was a silent group (supposedly most were against the protest? so we're told now....) then stand up, grow a sack and speak up. sheesh. but no, damage has been done and ND citizens are pissed.
