Is there anything new or different you want to do this ice fishing season? New waters, new techniques, new technology, new gear, new lures, etc?

I for one want to build more off of last year. I want to try some different waters, tried 2 last year. I want to attempt using plastics and lipless cranks more, started good and faded back to live. Target new species, walleye, pike, and trout.

Over the past few years I have been limited to tip up fishing with my boy as he just would not sit in an ice shack. Now I think I have him convinced the depth finder is a video game and the fish is the prize. My goal this winter is to get back to more walleye and pan fishing now that the boy can join me in the shack and understand what is happening.

Same as last year. I want to try to catch perch when I go out. Some days that's a pretty tall order.

My goal every year is to try new waters. Lived here 33 years and still manage to find new lakes every year. The last few years have been the best ice fishing I've seen. Love the adventure of finding big walleye or perch on random small lakes. I plan to make a few trips for trout this year which I haven't done forever. For techniques I plan to try flies this year. Just recently got back into fly fishing/tying, and plan to tie some dropper rigs for those finicky perch/crappie.

Hey B let me know how that works for you with the flies. I have been thinking something along the lines of your idea. Bought some kind of VMC thing like your talking and it did help ice some bonus pan fish

My goal is to find a small body of water that nobody knows about, probably in MN and I hope its full of large gills. Also im addicted to sight fishing and I would like to try that on different waters. One weekend in a sleeper would be awesome too.

I'll gladly paint some lures for you. And then we can exchange some money. Got a kid on the way. I heard they're expensive.

What are some people's favorite plastics? Last year I tried some Maki stuff being I found some on sale, seamed to work ok. How about Doyals Nervous Minnow? I would really like to ice some trout as I have never caught one through the ice yet

Nervous minnows are awesome. We did very well on them last year

ID like to try and catch salmon or ling on the big lake this winter.

With a new Helix 5 on the way I'd like to give that a whirl. Also catch a limit of eyes through the ice for the first time in my life.

Between you and Vollmer I'm going to end up getting one of those Helix 5's plus I still want a K-Drill. Sounds like the wife needs a second job

If the wife gets a second job you won't be going fishing. You'll be at home with them 2 girls.

A few random Ideas

I got this anise oil soap. I plan to wash my hands and all my lures with it everyday before the season starts. I need to remove the human scent.
I switched all my hooks to red because it looks like blood and triggers more strikes.
I figured out that pike lose their teeth in the winter so I switched all my tip-up line to 8 pound flouro.
As always, all my lures will be sprayed WD-40 to attract more fish.
I will be sure to drill extra holes with the noisy gas auger periodically to attract more fish.
I plan to set-up my tip-ups on the other side of the lake as the closer you are the less likely the fish will bite. Especially if you are looking at the flag.
Early in the season when the ice is clear I plan to attach glo-sticks to perch to see where they go at night. Perhaps I will use bobbers in day light hours.
