Not the blue walleye specie (s. vitreus glaucus) theyre extinct. Theres a few minnesota lakes that produce a blue color variation of walleye.
Correct. Seems to be algae-related coloration. Seen some blue perch as well.

On some of the TV fishing shows I've noticed some of the walleyes taken out of Rainy/Kabetogama are more dark gold in color.

Ha! I was looking for more of a big famous recognised lake name to label that colored eye on a plaque. I know pretty much all those canadian shield lakes with stained water have dark eyes. Ill probably go with lake vermillion.

Vermillion. Kabatogema. Namakin. You name it. They're all dark-gold-walleye meccas.

Erie had blue walleyes but there's some canadian lakes that still claim they exist.

I used to fish in Ontario quite a bit and we caught lots of blue walleyes and even have pics of some with Pink fins - seems like the pink finned fish were in the river systems and blues in the lake.. Im guessing its cause by the sediments specific to that water body??

Damn I'd love to see those fish. I wonder if they've been genetically analyzed? This sort of thing intrigues the hell out of me.

they take on the color of the water caused by the minerals in the rock under the water

Yeah. I know they're chameleons. The above description is pretty extreme IMHO. It would be cool if the blue pike was re-discovered.

I believe the blue is caused by an algae or bacteria specific to a few lakes.
