This post turned awesome. I'm going to post some "stats" and check in every month. That way it gets revived at least monthly. Right now my focus is on losing weight. Come mid summer, I'll be switching my focus to performance.
28 yo

2/2/17: 269

My trials and tribs ---- i was always big -- but got bigger especially in those 30's and early 40's. I look back now and go wow. Then i was scared thin --- that worked really good --- down from a touch over 300hundo to about 260. Then i put more weight on to 270 and then i was scared thin again -- this time a 4 day stint without food or water just an IV hopped full of good stuff. My stomach shrunk and then i was losing again--- 240 -- now i float around in that 240 range -- want to be lower but my muscles and my stomach and everything else hurts from my meds to excercise to much. 40min cardio a day and then some weights. Weekends are my worst enemy.

The best thing I do to keep the weight down is to eat as much wild game meat and fish I can along with our home grown garden vegetables. I avoid processed foods to the greatest extent possible. However, I like Miracle Whip and thus far, I haven't found a tree that grows that. I figure the foods assembled by God are better for me than food assembled by men and I try to arrange my diet around that idea.

This is gold. BTW, homemade mayo from olive oil is easy to make and keeps for a week or two. When I am presented with bad options I have a phrase that I repeat to myself...."Respect yourself. Be passionate about what you put in your body."

It goes fast fellas, what can I say? I quit smoking when my bride and I decided to have another child between us. That was 34 years ago.Now I am –lbs heavier, I can’t even admit it.I look in the mirror and see my father.I look at a recent picture and say who the f is that?
My intentions are good but the follow through lacks bigtime. From my moniker you know I love to cook and the word in my camp is that “the quality of my cooking corresponds to the amount or bourbon I consume in the process”My promise to myself is today, after the superbowl, I will make a concerted effort to drop a few lbs and perhaps once again wear some of the clothes hanging in my closet. I won’t hold my breath.
Last week I received a letter from an old army buddy. He said, “I am his oldest, living friend”sorry guys , for many reasons that doesn’t make me feel very good.
One word of advice.Take a glucosamine/ chondroitin supplement. I can still out walk kids half my age.

Here is a picture of me 42 years old @ over 280 lbs in winter of 2013. Pre-diabetic, high cholesterol and A1C through the roof and other issues.

Here is a pic of myself three years later 45 years old @ 202 lbs where I have settled in at for the last 2 years. Grain free diet and exercise everyday. Never had a prescription drug in my body my whole life other than an antibiotic a few times for open wounds and then only took a few pills for first couple days and always threw out the rest and all blood tests show I am in perfect condition the last 2.5 years. I get extensive blood tests done every six months but since things are normal i get them once a year now.

What I have found out over the last 3 years is patience. I was over 215 pounds when I retired. Wanted to do something about it. I decided to go on the atkins diet. Yes, the Atkins diet. I cut out a lot of things I truly enjoyed and basically willed myself to eat healthier. I stayed on this diet for over 3 years in phase one and became obsessed with it. I did loose the weight I wanted to, my goal was 180 but beat that by another 5 pounds. Once I got over not eating bread, potatoes, or anything starch I dropped the weight. I could eat as much meat and eggs, or any other protein that there was. I am still on this diet although when I took a cruse to alaska last september I kinda went off it. I now weigh about 180 to 190 depending but once the winter doldrums get over will get my butt back to being busy and get to my goal of 180 again. For those of you who want to loose weight but eat well go on this diet, I will tell you that in the beginning it's rough, no sugar, starches etc... Yes that means you have to give up drinking beer too argggggg. But if you truly want to drop the weight I would suggest either the Atkins, or the Paleo diet, or mediterranean as well. It is all in your minds, I am 61 and have a very good resting heart rate, and blood pressure. I come from a family that has is potentially high diabetes prone. Needless to say that I am not even close to that as well. I feel fortunate to be relatively healthy and am no where near throwing in the towel. I love to hunt and fish too much these days. Enjoy, I hope that this helps someone. Perseverance goes a looonnnng way:;:stirthepot

That was a lot of my issue too. Over 13 years of shift work and counting and then got a desk job to go along with the shift work about 6 years ago and the pounds really jumped on the old bones then. had to make a lifestyle change before it was too late to turn back health wise.

The older you get, the less you eat, and it still can be tough to lose weight.
