Was there really a 2018 CWD culling event conducted by NDGF?

I’d like someone to fill me in on what occurred.

Was I out of country when it happened? I think I’d remember it being discussed.

Oh - I do recall they conducted a "sampling event".

I didn't recall that the deer were "taken by targeted removal" according to the news article.

That means culling was part of their intention - which I had not heard/read before - or I forgot.

As I recall, there was a fairly large herd of deer in the Williston area, close to the river. Herded up for the winter like whitetails have been doing forever. Shooters came in and killed a pretty large number of them for testing. Don't remember the exact number but do remember "Holy shit, that was a lot of deer." Wasn't the percentage of Positive tested deer pretty low? Low depends on several definitions. 1 per 100 is pretty low to me, but to someone trying to make their case, 1 per 100 proves that we have a problem. Created more bad press than good, again, dependent on who's side you were on.

Yes and it’s going to get worse here if we don’t shut this shit down. They are starting mass culling operations in Missouri and Texas as we speak. It’s criminal at this point what’s happening.

Absolute Madness

IF CWD is a problem of consequence - natural selection is the only way out.

Culling is unselective and simply reduces the herd size - which means reducing the chances of the herd naturally selecting its way out of a chronic malady.

The chances of a handful of a population of deer having the genetics it takes to deal with prions are less if you reduce the size of the population.

I just do not understand the mindset behind culling. If it's to "buy time" - that's simply irrational.

Yes. Why do you think we are fighting this so hard……. Everything around cwd makes absolutely no logical sense. Unless your end goal is money or to decimate the deer herds. Cwd is the vehicle they are using. When you look at it from that angle it starts to make a lot more sense.

I posted on the prions thread and of course nothing from the peanut gallery since what I posted can't be disputed. The process of testing a soil sample is not relevant at this time so culling herds is the best option going forward and it will be something we will see more of but won't hear about since the ones who are actually managing the publics resources are doing a piss poor job. Less and less hunters are looking to bag a deer for harvest each passing year and with sky rocketing insurance claims or habitat destruction, the parties with the biggest mouths will use every reason, prions, to continue to eliminate every natural resources that we, North Dakotans, rightfully own.
Prions are in dirt
Deer eat dirt
Prions in deer

There is no point in engaging with anyone paid to lobby for backcountry hunters and anglers. Their ND lobbyist showed up to carry water for the group working to gift valuable, established, popular, riverfront public property to a private entity which intends to destroy an existing boat ramp used by sportsmen to access an excellent walleye fishery.

That is the epitome of a litmus test for whether or not someone respects sportsmen and taxpayers.

Nope it’s pointless. They are bought and paid whores for whatever grants or government money they can get. Plus I seriously think Brock has a severe mental issue going on.
