I'm all for it. And all money from it needs to go to fund education and provide property tax relief. This makes a hell of a lot more sense to get back at the tribe than all those other bills they passed or tried to pass against the protestors. This would bring them bastards to their knees.

" In spite" is probably a valid argument for many but in my opinion I'd say bad timing. It should have been done years ago.

I'm not in favor of this to hurt or punish the tribes, I'm in favor because it would help North Dakota as a state.

gambling is nasty for a small percentage of people - it ruins many people's lives (not just the gambler)

I'd prefer less of it but it's a free country

I think several new state owned casinos is bad idea idea but I could probably be convinced that one or two real nice ones in high populated areas would be ok as long as they would create a nice cash flow for the state. One on the east side of the state would draw a lot of Canadians down unless they have legalized casinos up there recently. Something more than the run of the mill casinos we have already have. A nice big salad bar with lots of fruit and a good meal, A sport betting room with drinks. Was working close to Vegas so went to a pretty nice casino to watch the Frozen four, The big TVs in there were awesome. Did this come up for vote like back in the 80s and was voted down or was that just to issue gambling permits to establishments ? Do the tribe operated casinos pay state taxes ?

A casino with sports betting and an entertainment complex/hotel near Fargo would probably bring a lot of Blue-platers on the weekends.

Sawyer,
I like it, and for no reason to do with the rez casinos other than one of them, and maybe even several are dry casino's which I want no part of. I'm not a big gambler, but I like having close options where we can stay, take in a concert, blow a few bucks on the floor and crash.

I'm for it. Place one in Medora, Fort Lincoln, and east side of the state. Money goes to schools and property taxes. Thumbs Up

My wife had a family member spend some time in the poky because of a gambling addiction, it is actually a pretty horide deal. But we in America don't punish the masses for they few that can't handle it.... haha

Probably quite a few charities nervous at the thought. Baseball/hockey, American Legions, VFW, scholarships, etc. would be game over. To think the state would pony up the difference to them is laughable. Also to think casino revenue would result in tax breaks is also pretty far-fetched. Once government has its hands in it it's going to be dealt out in pork and that's what's left after everyone gets their cut on the way down. It would be hard to even compare gambling revenue with what has come out of the oilfield and how many tax breaks has that resulted in? Also would that mean casino employees would be state employees? A casino that runs like the DMV sounds like a drag.

All of those charities and more are funded but blackjack and pull tabs and bingo as well as other gambling activities in ND. Plenty of gambling can be done in ND as is as long as a charity gets a cut.

So because it might have an effect on some blackjack money we shouldn't do it? I'm assuming all bars in devils lake no longer have any bingo or blackjack because the casino killed it off! The reality is it doesn't work that way. Sure they would take a hit but game over.....I don't think so. By that logic you would need that vast majority to shift their gambling completely away from the bars to the casino and that's just not going to happen.

I mean seriously this is ND we are talking about here a state that already has blackjack in almost every bar along with bingo and some mutant form of roulette so this isnt exactly a big leap. As for Madora the only way that works is to go the deadwood rout and make it a true destination or the winter slow season will kill it especially if there suddenly are ones in bis and fargo as well.

Don't think for a minute that state gambling will provide more money for schools. The legislature has a mindset that they will provide a certain amount of money to schools and if you increase that amount from one account it only means they will deduct a like amount from another account and the schools will have no net gain. Have seen it happen many times in my years with schools.

Isn't devils lake dry? If a person in ND who wanted to spend more that $40 had a choice to go somewhere where they could have a drink and get kickbacks on their play and avoid traveling to a reservation to do so, they will. A legion club can not even come close to having the money to help out vets by selling beer and whiskey. Also the kids sports teams funded by the charitable gaming would be in trouble. The thought that a government would sprinkle gaming money around like much needed rain is crazy.

27 million and they can increase production by a factor of five! If true that's some crazy big increase for not very much money.

State owned casinos is a great idea, and I hope we,ll be able to smoke pot in the casino too while we're gambling. That would generate a lot of revenue for our welfare programs.
