In the wind storm we had last week south of Marshall our old barn took a pretty good hit. We are looking to see if anyone has any interest or knows of someone who would like to take it apart for the wood to use or sell. So far all of the places around the state i have talked to only buy lumber they don't actually take down the buildings themselves. I would tackle it myself to sell if i already didn't have 100 other projects going. Hate to just burn it up if someone can get some use out of it, but its kind of in our way so will have to if no one wants it.

One by one they go. Sad. They dont make 'em like that anymore.

I've got some stockpiled already for small projects but if I hear of anyone else interested i'll let them know.

Man if I had time to run to wherever marshall is, I'd definitely help in the tear down.

You could EBay sections of it, but it sounds like time is limited.

If you have a Hutterite or Mennonite colony near you they might clean it up and make use of it. I saw a colony tearing down a huge barn and I was amazed how efficiently they worked . The men on the roof , Older boys carrying the boards and woman and little kids pulling the nails and they had a section of railroad track for woman and kids to straighten the bent nails .

Might look out of state. You might be able to get an outfit from back east that will come out. Old barn wood runs a pretty penny on the east and west coasts for interior designers. Good Luck!! Hope the old gal can get a few more years of use somewhere else.

Good thought! I always hesitate with transportation. I'm not sure what policies are in place. Heck, in Minnesota you can't even travel with logs in or out of the state (last I checked) due to things like Emerald Ash Borer.

Thanks for the input everyone I have a few people interested in coming out and tearing it all down in return for as much of it as they would like. If i had the time i would take it down and sell it I know can make good money off of them, but its in the way now for some of our corals and if falls more could damage more fencing and another shed that next to it. With working 70 hours a week and the wife due with our first child here in about a month i don't see me getting around to it anytime soon so happy for someone to get some use or make some money off of it.

Glad you are making use out of it. A friendly FWIW though is some serious discussions about a safety plan should be included in your project . Hard to tell the structure condition by the pictures but that low corner could decide to sag, shift or fall at any time.

I would save those big doors and make a keepsake out of them, even just a small wall hanging.

I agree with Davey, looks like she could tip over anytime. A couple 16 gallon kegs, a good band and a couple dancing girls(or more):;:smokin and a match, we could have an NDA celebration one Saturday night. :;:rockit ;:;boozer

I have seen some past posts or bisman ads with the same approach as you have and some made mention how they had people agree to do it all, but they just showed up on their own time and then they just ended up taking the easy and higher potential resale items like the doors and larger timbers or straighter planks and then just left the rest.

So the owner of the barn was still left with the majority of the barn but even less appeal to any professional service looking to complete the tear down 100%

Just a warning, if the alternative you have in mind is burning it maybe it makes no difference.

Yea will sure be different. Now when i describe to people how to find our place can't just say look for the big barn.

I'm going to miss seeing that old barn on the way out to our ranch.
