Mine used to do this from time to time. If I unplugged and re-plugged my co-pilot connection a couple times it went away. Pretty sure it was a dirty connection... since I cleaned out the little holes I haven't had any further issues.

That is a handy little file, thanks for sharing. Didn't find anything on squealing but I learned a lot. I think I just need a new remote.
