hmm. didn't think any of them got on the record. I don't recall them giving any info to anyone about what guns I bought. I could be wrong just don't recall that.

How long does the FFL have to keep your paperwork on file that has the serial number of the gun you just purchased. Pretty easy to go to the FFLs and ask to see the paperwork for all of their sales. When you build your own gun there is no laws broken. No paperwork needs to be done. The nice thing is you can pick all the components you want on the gun. I would say it is not any cheaper then buying one off the shelf. I call it Legos for big boys it is addicting lots of cool stuff out there. I am currently building a 204 upper just finished a 300 blackout upper.

#1. Forever, to be turned over to BATFE when the dealer discontinues firearms sales.

#2. Not without a court order. Routine inspections/audits spot check log books vs. actually 4473 paperwork. To look for a specific individual requires a court order. Tracing the history of a firearm used in a crime is a matter of following the paper trail from manufacturer, to distributer, to FFL, to 1st purchaser, at which point if the firearm has been sold face-to-face between 2 citizens, the paper-trail ends.

I'd simply be much harsher on any crimes in which a gun was present, whether it was fired or not. That would include regular searches of homes and vehicles of anyone convicted of crimes with a gun until they'd gone through the process of having their rights restored.

I agree that once you have been proven violent, you have forfeited many of your rights.

I'd like to see reconciled numbers via independent tabulations that showed the number of total NICS checks that resulted in, "instant proceed", vs. "Delayed", vs. "Denied". Then how many "Delayed" became "Approved or Denied". Lastly, how many "Denied" resulted in arrest, prosecution, and punishment. This should be data that is published annually.

I suspect "denied" with "arrested/prosecuted/punished" is disturbingly low.

YEP. How else do you get the public to keep wanting more laws if you thoroughly enforce the ones you have?

[h=1]Judge repeats gun rights slogan during sentencing for illegal buys[/h] By Nicholas Erickson of the Journal Sentinel
Aug. 19, 2015

Judge Rudolph Randa

In giving probation with no jail time to a Milwaukee man charged with 55 counts of buying firearms with fake identification and dealing them without a license, a federal judge delivered a message:
"People kill people," U.S. District Rudolph Randa said, echoing a common gun rights slogan. "Guns don't kill people."
Dontray Mills, 24, purchased a total of 27 firearms, mostly handguns, between December 2012 and April 2014 and pleaded guilty to one of the charges on April 22, 2014, after an ATF investigation. As a result of the conviction, Mills will never again be able to buy firearms legally.
On Wednesday, he was sentenced. As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors agreed with the one year of probation.
Randa said he recognized the seriousness of the offense and acknowledged the problem of guns winding up in the hands of people who use them to commit violence.
But Mills, Randa said, did not come across as a typical defendant because of his good behavior since the charges and his life ambitions, which include becoming a rap musician. While on bail, Mills twice traveled to Los Angeles to work on a film and to pursue his musical aspirations.
Randa said he had seen plenty of people facing similar charges who bought firearms for friends and then took no responsibility for their actions. Mills, he said, has accepted responsibility.
Mills purchased the firearms, usually at a Gander Mountain or Mills Fleet Farm store, with an identification that had an address that was different from his own. He tearfully told the court Wednesday he was "unaware of how serious" his offense was.
On April 11, 2014, Mills was at a Mills Fleet Farm in Germantown and filled out ATF Form 4473 to purchase a gun from the store, which he could pick up two days later. Shortly after he went to West Bend and purchased a firearm there, too.
On that same day, law enforcement officers, who had received a tip about Mills' activities about a week earlier, went to the address he had been using to purchase the firearms in the 6100 block of N. 35th St in Milwaukee and interviewed a resident of the house.
Mills had listed the address in his purchases, but the resident said nobody had permission to use her address and nobody was renting a room. The family — which included a man, woman and two minor children — had no idea their address had been used by someone else to register to buy guns.
Mills was taken into custody and released on bail. While on bail, he traveled to California to work on a film and to pursue his aspirations of becoming a rap artist.

Gun Deaths Increased By About 40 Percent Compared To Last Year

On New Year's Eve, a Milwaukee block watch captain named Gayle says that she, along with her friends and family, will be celebrating the holiday in the basement of her home.
It's a question of safety: There are a lot of gunshots in her neighborhood, she says, and bullets have struck the main floor of her house several times.
"I'm tired of going into the basement," said Gayle, who didn't provide her last name in the interest of her own safety. "I'm sick and tired of going into the basement on New Year's Eve."
This year in particular, the gun homicide total in Milwaukee has soared: The city has reported that 117 people have been shot to death, an increase of about 35 over last year at this time.
The shootings have left some scared, the police chief upset, and the city's mayor hoping that promises from President Barack Obama's administration will be kept.
The Police Response
Gayle said she's appealed to the police for more help.
"I ask for police presence in my neighborhood to cut down on the senselessness. I feel if they ride through my neighborhood, the ones who are doing these things will be more cautious," she said.
Milwaukee police say they've been very active against guns, and have taken steps like assigning more officers to violence-plagued neighborhoods and using technology called ShotSpotter to respond more quickly to gunfire. They also say they've conducted mass arrests of drug dealers linked to gun violence.
Then, there are the department's efforts to perhaps reduce violence by taking small steps toward addressing poverty — "when want is felt most keenly," in the words of Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn. Flynn paraphrased the line from Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol " when he held a news conference this week highlighting police delivering donated food to some low-income families in the city.
When asked about this year's increase in gun deaths, along with the hundreds of other nonfatal shootings in the city, Flynn broke down the numbers.
"What I can report is that our robbery-related homicides are down significantly compared to last year, but those homicides that derived from arguments, fights and retaliation among those people that have significant criminal records is up over 100 percent," said Flynn. "That by itself is driving this homicide total."
Flynn said another factor is there are more guns on the street than during any time in his eight years as chief, along with weaker gun laws that include, he said, the state statute allowing the concealed carry of guns.
The Question Of Policy
Flynn declined comment, for now, on the expectation that President Obama will issue an executive order on guns within the next few weeks. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, on the other hand, said he's glad the president appears ready to act.
The mayor said closing loopholes in the background check requirement for gun purchases would help Milwaukee, noting that the checks aren't required for firearms purchased at gun shows or online.
"That's something that's very, very important, because those are oftentimes the guns that we fear will end up in the hands of criminals," said Barrett.
Conservatives in Congress are already trying to block any executive action by the president, and Gov. Scott Walker and other Republicans in Wisconsin maintain the better approach is to address community mental health issues and tighten national security.
Retired Milwaukee County Judge James Gramling, however, argues that people who don't live close to gun violence underestimate the need for stronger action, because they underestimate the economic impact on those who are wounded and other survivors.
"For these victims, there are months, maybe years of anguish — mental, physical," said Gramling. "There are medical costs not covered by insurance. There are lost earnings."
Gramling asserts that gun control advocates have to work harder to show that everyone pays for gun violence — especially, he said, in a year such as this.

Who are the real criminals here??

The hottest caliber in the AR-15 is the 300 blackout. But then you will need a suppressor. Midway has a lot of kits on sale right now if you want a plain Jane 223. Midway also has a lot of gun parts on sale. Wilson Combat has a few 6.8 SPC II barrels on sale. http://www.shop.blackholeweaponry.com/243LBC_c511.htm here is a few barrel options I have not ordered from them yet.

I read this morning on fox news that the FBI has three days to clear your background check, if they don't you can buy the gun without it.

Check out the wilson combat 18" barrels they are priced right. They have a nice low profile gas block. Barrel and hand guard are the most important part for accuracy.

Once you you get you CW they don't have to call in you still have to fill in the form as long as you are buying a gun in North Dakota

The only pertinent "advice" I can offer is go with a 1/7 twist. I read 1/8 is a good compromise but hath sayeth Hosager: "Fast isn't necessarily a bad thing."

I just dropped a stupid amount of money on 18" bbl, .223 Wylde, 1/8 twist, rifle length gas system. Hoping it'll be a tack driver with little to no recoil.
