I doubt blockchain is gonna bring in riff raff. Probably just a bunch of rich nerds that will stimulate the local economy and open new buisness 😂

What they're not talking about is the riff raff that is/will be coming along with this. (I'm guessing some of you out in western ND can relate)

Ellendale isn't going to be that small town anymore. Even if they're still relatively "small" in stature, their problems are going to be "big town".

I have connections, people are divided on this. Most don't really like it, from what I gather.

Doesn't matter really, it's happening.
That place is huge we have been hauling concrete materials there for a couple years and now they are building a huge housing complex. The amount of power they use is crazy was told there is a huge substation located there thats why ellendale was picked. I would bet the people making money on it are all for it and the ones not dont want all the new people around.

I don't know very much about it but I heard last week that our company has like 65 or 85 rental pieces down there for various customers we support from the Fargo area. I know I had one company looking at using their survey gear they got from me for doing a pile of layout points but I think they finally decided that at their current skill level and the time that project takes and the time it takes their one guy away from other projects it would be better to have a survey company handle that portion. I don't get very intimated with customer projects as often anymore because then I almost become a project manager and that isn't what I am paid to do plus the liability which we aren't protected from.

My son is an electical subcontractor working in Ellendale. Making nice bank, long hours however. No place to live however, so they have a place down in Frederick SD.

A lot of the workers are doing that.

In due time they will have “track houses” up and ready. As well as “other” multi-dwelling housing projects.

They’re working on the first batch as I type. South of the fairgrounds.

Im curious how they need so much staff to run a PC farm. If people are investing so heavily in something like this to farm bitcoin, do you really think its likely to tank anytime soon?

Elon Musk has lots of money so if it tanks it’s no big deal. 😉
"The press release says Applied Digital's data center design allows it to accommodate almost 50,000 of NVIDIA’s H100 SXM class graphics processing units in a single parallel compute cluster."

Those H100s cost like 30k each I think. Thats some significant processing power. Colossus (grok / xAI) has 200k h100s and it sounds like they expect to add another 100k H200s in the near future. Its already the most powerful AI training array on the planet. Elon is gonna dominate the AI market it appears, no other country has even close to the processing power the US has at this point.

More info:

Cost Comparison:

  • H100: The cost of an H100 GPU is typically around $25,000 to $40,000 per unit, depending on the exact configuration and supply demand dynamics.
  • H200: The H200, being an upgrade, is estimated to cost approximately 20% more per hour when accessed as a virtual machine instance on cloud service providers. Given the H100's price range, this translates to an H200 potentially ranging from $30,000 to $48,000 per unit.

Performance Comparison:

  • Memory and Bandwidth: The H200 offers significant advancements over the H100, including nearly double the memory capacity (141 GB vs. 80 GB) and 43% higher memory bandwidth (4.8 TB/s vs. 3.35 TB/s). This makes the H200 more suitable for handling larger models and datasets, which is critical for AI training and inference tasks.
  • AI and HPC Performance:
    • Training: Benchmarks show the H200 can offer up to 45% more performance in specific generative AI and high-performance computing (HPC) tasks due to its increased memory and bandwidth.
    • Inference: For large language models (LLMs) like Llama2 70B, the H200 doubles the inference performance compared to the H100, making it notably faster for real-time AI applications.
  • Energy Efficiency: The H200 delivers enhanced performance at the same energy consumption levels as the H100, effectively reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) by 50% for LLM tasks due to lower energy consumption and increased efficiency.

Which is Better?

  • The H200 is considered better for:
    • Applications requiring large memory capacity and high bandwidth, like training very large AI models or handling memory-intensive HPC workloads.
    • Scenarios where energy efficiency and reduced TCO are critical considerations.
    • Future-proofing, given its advancements over the H100.
  • The H100 remains valuable for:
    • Situations where the cost is a significant factor, and the performance of the H100 is still adequate for the workload.
    • Existing systems where upgrading to H200 might not be justified if the H100 meets current needs.

In summary, if budget isn't the primary concern, and you're looking for top-of-the-line performance, especially for the most demanding AI and HPC tasks, the H200 is the better choice. However, the H100 is still a powerful GPU, offering a good balance of performance and cost for many current applications.

There is no other facility like it in the world.

Ellendale is just “lucky” I guess.

That greatly depends on who you ask.

Within 10 or maybe 15 years I'm guessing the majority of the workers will be AI robots that work 24/7. No payroll , no housing needed and they don't eat.

Elon predicted recently that soon there will be more robots than humans in our daily lives, I kinda doubt that, but no doubt there will be some crazy stuff

I don't doubt it. My boy is a little bit involved with this technology through his work. Once they get them perfected they will have instant communicate with each others around the world. What every single robot learns every day will automatically program into the rest of the robots so It will all happen fast. It's mind boggling.
