Regarding flushing smelt, I noted a lot of them Saturday night while wading on the Missouri north of Bismarck. Also plenty of shad the Wednesday before. Water was about 18" higher from Wednesday to Saturday of last week.

Up about 2 feet in past week. In the past decade, Ive never seen fewer boats at Hazelton on a spring morning than i did yesterday. fishing was Sloooow!

Day-time discharge (higher electricity consumption) versus nighttime discharges. The daytime water depth is much greater than during the night. Very noticeable at the tailrace boat ramp.

thanks - that's what I figured - had to ask because I see the exact same pulse behavior from the Red in the spring due to warming/melting

So, going to 35000 cfs by mid may should be interesting for the reel and rec on the 20th

I think after next weekend, I'm going to start preparing for Sak and Devils. Then forget about my 2017 spring river fishing season.

As recently as Wednesday, the wading was tough. Not brutal... managed two fish. Two others near me each got two. Nothing to write home about, but better than nothing.

On the other hand, the weather has been top-notch. Almost too nice.

I hope for good things from the 'race this summer. It can't be much worse than river fishing by Bismarck.
