I am looking to purchase an anchor or maybe two. I have a 2007 StarCraft Super Fisherman 17'6" with a full windshield.
I fish both the river and lakes.
Also wondering the best way to rig them (does it really matter)?

Thanks Captainbrad.
Apparently no one else uses anchors.

I have an 18 ft Sylvan Viper, I use a Panther Water Spike and it works great. We used it on lakes and on the rainy river fishing Sturgeon in the spring and have always been able to hold.

20# Navy anchor off the front and a cinder block off back to keep it from swaying/turning. Probably not as good as Brad's , but works fine for me.

I took the anchor out of my boat after buying the I-PILOT. The Digger anchor worked well for Me.

I run a digger anchor with 10 feet of 3/8" chain. No problems holding position in any condition. 17" alumacraft.

I second the richter. Never had a problem with it breaking loose on the river in current. Spend bit what the hell isn't for outdoor activities these days.

I don't anchor much, but my 19 foot Alumacraft holds well with one 16 lb Navy anchor out the front and a 12 lb mushroom off the side to prevent swing. I run twice as much line as the water depth on the main anchor and I chuck the mushroom to the outside on the outside swing and let out line until I get to center again. It seems to work in just about any wind I care to fish in.

I am not going to bash but I am going to point out a couple problems I have run into with most anchors (richtor in particular) When fishing around wood which I do a lot if they land upside down and get wedged under a tree they are gone. The flukes have no give and the slide won't work if the anchor is wedged in on top of it. Also some of the other anchors have trouble in high water and wind (especially in mud)

I throw the anchor 10-15 times per day all year long and have tried them all. I still have my 1st 20# cat river four years after getting it. Just a few things to consider.

Big fan of the Digger. No chain needed, and you can get it out of stuck spots around Devils Lake and Red River trees.

I use the biggest digger anchor I could find. It's either 15 or 18 pounds. I think it holds good. Might be better ones. But, it releases 100% of the time. Which makes it worth every penny fishing devil's lake trees or red River log jams

I see great minds think alike. I read up on the one Brad posted. Also looks intriguing. A good release is a necessity

i use a retired oilfield anchor from the patch... weighs about 30# with a rod length of about 2'... it is really heavy which both sux, and is good... holds a 21' tourney boat in full current on the missouri in any wind...

I along with most all other pontooners have a hard time finding an anchor that will hold us in place in current and wind but I along with most others use a box anchor by slide anchor comanay. I would recommend the baby or small one at most, I have a 22+' triple tube toon and the small size locks me in place on the river with wind no problem at all. They are spendy but well worth it. I had tried about 3-4 other run of the mill anchors and even with 2 of them would still drift.
