I caught a white crappie a few years ago in about 40 fow in the river south of New Town during the 4bears casino tourney. I also saw a dead one under fresh ice out at Parshall bay years ago. Occasionally someone catches a few off of flag point, that is where I saw the dead one. They are in Sak, just not in big numbers.

I used to catch a few in Garrison bay. Haven't fished in there much in the last few years, but I have friends around the Garrison area that have caught them also. Nice black Crappies if you can find them

I don't know if they were ever stocked. They were probably in there when the river was impounded way back when

Any sort of backwater on the rivers up here its possible to find them. Have actually caught a few in the Yellowstone up here in the last couple years. If I hadn't done it I would have been skeptical. The backwater area on the Missouri bottoms(Indian Hill) south of Williston has been known to have some crappies from time to time along with pike and tons of bullheads.

I know a lot of people catch them on trenton lake, and in the spring when the water is high they have easy access to get into the missouri river.

15 years straight fishing sexy Sakakawea, never put a crappie or blue gill in the boat.

I have never caught a tagged fish either, so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Quite a few in Trenton lake although I'm not sure they were stocked in there. I think they got in there via the river and found a comfortable home to start reproducing.

I have caught crappie up at the west end of Sak, and on the Missouri down at Yankton, I believe they were probably in the river before the dam was ever built.

Try a small hook with a chunk of crawler, or a tiny blue fox minnow spinner. :;:

From the looks of it someone needs to come out with a stonewashed jeans colored crankbait. DirtyMike? Maybe even add a mullet and racing stripes on the side.

Circa 1991 Garrison bay
For a few years in the '90s Garrison bay was hot, up to 2 lbs. Back in the early '80s lake Audubon and the car bodies on the river! Still run in to a few up and down sak. The last one was in deepwater last year.

Id like to hear more about the Oahe crappies, any tips about where to try? Might be fun for the kids, but theres a lot of water for them to hide in down there....
