Seen some big drifts in my time but can't say I've ever seen them so big they knock all the trees and brush down. Was down looking for a deer I lost last fall the day before the first big storm which turned out to be exactly where I thought he was but he fell into a fliping hole created by an underground stream in the middle of 4 foot tall grass so I ended up walking by within two feet of him on at least two occasions while looking last fall. It was then I noticed all the trees on the north side of the draw had been knocked over by the force of the drift. Spots on this drift were still approaching ten feet deep.



The hole the deer fell into. Luckily the snow had flattened the tall grass and brush in the bottom making it easy to find him now.

I have a lot of trees that suffered this winter. Pines, willow, plums, and chokecherry all took an ass-whooping from the snow and wind this winter.

There were a few in the finger draw when I went in.

so, in reality dean, he blend in with the surroundings last fall and you couldn't pick him out. Now I don't feel so bad I can't pick out deer that are bedded down in trees and everyone's can pick them out....lol

Well I wasn't exactly expecting him to go all prairie dog on me and dive down a hole. It didn't occurre to me that it was even a possibility till a few days later and by that point the draw was burried in snow.

The bigger question on pheasants is are you or anyone seeing any
hens? Some roosters will always survive, but hens usually go down for the count.

Actually they have no say in the matter since it's a rez deer so falls outside their jurisdiction just as it would if it came from another state.

I have not seen a pheasant hen since the snow melt in the vicinity of Bismarck. Seeing a decent number of roosters but just no hens in my observations.

Theres more bones and hide but they are off shot to the right down in the hole. Would guess he got hit pretty good by the yotes sometime after the first storm but it would have had to be about a week because I checked back once the roads reopened hoping if nothing else some yotes would have found him and maid it easy to spot the red snow but alas there was zero sign at that time. There's a chance he didn't get hit till this spring when the snow melted but by how far and wide chunks of fur were it looked as though he got tore up some time ago.

I was in Watford today. I bet I saw 50 pheasants between there and Minot. Saw some hens. A little less than 50% we're hens.

Something doesn't seam right here. Those horns are awfully white for how long you say they were there. It appears you also found a pit full of dermestid beetles, not even coyotes can lick an eye socket and vertebrae that clean.

Pretty crazy what a snow drift can do. There was a lot of pipes broken on oil locations from the weight of the snow. Takes a lots of force to bend and break a 2" pipe.
As far as pheasants, I have seen quite a few while out shed hunting and driving around. Seems like a lot of Hens, maybe 50-50. Around Stanley down to Garrison area.

Me and dean have had our differences but i have found a couple skulls from deer i know died just last year who are damn near match to that one so i dont think there is any funny stuff here.
