best time to spray is like you said. After the hard frost, the plant wants to suck up some moisture and again if you have the week killer down, it gets sucked up and dies!!

We have canadian thistle with some leafy spurge to the north of us in a huge empty lot (lots actually). That shit blows in from the prevailing northwest winds. We use milestone and 2-4 D to control leafy spurge and Canadian thistle in our CRP so may have to give this a test in town. (SHHHHHHH)!! We live in Mandan and the pricks that own the lots to the north of us live in FARGO. City doesn't work with us much to control the NOXIOUS weeds so may take it upon myself. They are supposed to mow at least once a month or after 6" of growth. Think the city mowed it once last year...Bastages

Anyone else like to let the boulevard weeds grow into weed patches because of all the salt, sand and gravel the city pushes up into the grass during the winter? Like to put it into cement or gravel or pavers but that isn't allowed either. Bastages[/QUOTE

The County should have someone that deals with noxious weeds and if you complain to them, it should be taken care of.

I also recall unknowingly harvesting them in our shoe laces - and later finding them with our fingers. DANGIT.

The past two years, we've hit a dry spell come July that's torched my lawn and then I got to quit mowing. F'n glorious.

What the hell do you guys worry about your lawns so damn much for? I can barely squeeze in fishing trips the way it is.

yep - dormant grass is good grass

This guy is a borderline expert on "grass".

I personally prefer the look, feel, and feeling of success of a glorious yard and lawn. When I pull into the driveway after a long cycle ride, I like to look over my estate and take it all in...haha
Green healthy lawn lives matter.

I havent had any problems yet, I thought that crap was just for use in pastures, etc. Do people use it on their lawns? Was this in Bismarck? What good is compost if you cant grow anything with it?
-----------------------------------
I just saw your picture. I had something that affected my grapes for a while after I first planted them. Some plants did fine, others looked like they had a really bad nutrient deficiency, I bet it was the damn compost that caused the problems....

The compost or the herbicides? Personally, I don't know anyone who spreads compost on their lawns. However, just about everyone uses some kind of weed spray. The ones that guy and others are talking about are your standard broadleaf weed killers for lawns. Most have 2-4D in them along with some other smaller amounts of other broadleaf herbicides. They aren't intended to hurt grass but will devastate just about anything you want in your garden in even the smallest amounts.

Berries in particular don't like 2-4D. I've put some serious hurt on Juneberries in the past by having too much "drift" on a breezy day as I went after dandelions and thistle in the grass next to them. Lesson learned.

Thankfully I have chickens and they produce all the compost I need for my garden.

After reading this, I was starting a new garden and used grass that I mowed to help till in the garden. The last couple years, certain plants would not grow. I thought I just got some junky seeds. Pretty sure the grass was sprayed with a Weed-B-gon. Now wondering if those grass clippings is my cause for not so great garden production. I haven't added grass for a couple years, hoping those chemicals have faded away for this year.
