Nope, Kids are grown and grandkids are not old enough to hunt yet.
Ok, fair enough
1,874 residents had both gratis deer and a bow tag - these are now freed up tags.
6,940 residents had both a deer lottery and a deer bow tags. - these are now freed up tags.
for a total of 8814 which is the number you came up with.
BUT, since archery is now included. We MUST include the bow only guys as well.
That's another 6,235 people that bought bow licenses did not apply for gun tags that now have to put in for the lottery.
so now it's down to 2579 that could get a tag that didn't before.
This is assuming that the bow only guys get drawn every year. Which we know probably wouldn't happen but is a worse case scenario - or best case depending on who you ask.
2nd lottery will be run this week per an email to GF. If you want to get the kids grandkids out I can almost guarantee there’s some leftover. Again your may have to travel but if your so concerned about their future I think that is a rather small price to pay. As far as land I hunt all public for my bucks and hunt with 30 miles of Bismarck on private land for does yep I knocked on doors and yep I can harvest does whenever I have the tag just never bucks and you know what I’m good with that. It’s a place to take my kids within 30 miles and fill my freezer. It seems you say it’s about the kids but are. It willing to travel a bit? Just confused on that one
Davey has already admitted he wants them to have buck tags.
I kind of find this whole argument entertaining, not just for the parties involved, but because I feel like we're looking at the issue in a bizzare fashion. People are arguing over how to allocating the licenses we have. Some want it to remain the same, others want it changed. It's hunter against hunter in the age-old debates that our grandfathers and great grandfathers have had (it some way or form).
But what I truly find funny is that we're arguing over the tags themselves -- not the deer. We're talking about how to raise the amount of opportunities based on the current deer herd. Not once has anyone asked "well how do we get more deer so there's more opportunity?"
It's like, we're so used to the status quo that nobody even entertains the notion that we could somehow get our deer herds back to the way they were just 10 years ago.
Boggles my mind, really. We keep talking about opportunities for kids and family. Basically, planning for their future. Don't you guys see the irony in all this??
Between this and the waterfowl thread, you'd believe its winter out there. Good Lord people.
Interesting fact.....Every time I look back at this poll I see the side of "keep things as is" always increasing.
great post! Agreed we need more HABITAT! But how many of us here are willing to reach into our own pocketbooks or vote for any new habitat producing measures? Or are we just spinning our collective wheels here with feel good talk and expecting things to increase deer or pheasant numbers to suddenly appear, like manna from Heaven? Agreeing with you 100% but just saying......
One thing that will install in you is that if there are 5 kids at the table and only 5 hamburgers in the pan nobody gets two.
