Driving in the left lane

I couldn't agree more about the number of terrible drivers in Bismarck and it seems to get worse every year. Rather than rely on the police to be everywhere, all the time, I've always thought the DOT should have an online reporting system. If you see a driver who is rude/aggressive/terrible/too old, etc you just type in their license plate and if a vehicle gets reported so many times (20?) over a certain period of time, they have to re-take the road test. I think it would go a long ways towards people acting like idiots when they get behind the wheel.

Pretty sure there is a law in MN about cruising in the left lane. Passing purposes and traffic jams... (I know, I know, of course MN has a law). I travel MN and WI for work and I see it all every week. The people who dont have or use cruise on the highways are just as bad IMO. I hate passing the same person 6 times in 40 miles.

Pet peeves, got that those and people deciding that I need to drive behind them going 10 of 15 mph below the speed limit on a busy 2 lane roads around town. Or pull out in front of you and do the same crap and then get pissed and start brake checking you when you come up behind them doing the posted speed limit. Get your foot out of your rear end and at least do the speed limit. The wife gets PO'ed me when I show them that they are #1 in my book.

On the other hand , Mine is when I am going the speed limit and have tailgaters that won't pass. I have lived on the same hilly road with a lot of curves for close to 60 years and see deer cross the road multiple times on my short drive to town. If speed limit is too slow then pass but don't ride my ass all the way to town.

I hate the new rumble strips down the middle of the road that hold all the pebbles, gravel, dirt, whatever. When someone passes you, they toss all this debris up in the air and ultimately into the windshield. I try to get a little farther away from the vehicle I passed before I pull in front of them if that is possible. Or if someone goes around me and looks like they will dive right back into my lane, i'll hit the brakes to get a little farther away from them provided i can do it safely.

They tell me I am a professional driver in this city they call Bismarck. I've logged a lot of miles on my little postal truck to think so. Agree with all that is said about Bismarck drivers. I will warn you about one intersection. 4th and Century. I have spent the past year delivering mail in that area. I do not sit at this intersection all day and just watch traffic. I go by it on the way to my route, again by it and back to my route to use the facilities, and by it again back to the PO. I have seen the results of 5 accidents at that intersection in the very little amount of time I go by there. In fact one day i have to slam on the brakes heading through a green light when this old guy in a red Silverado smoking a cigar decides it's his day to go through a red light. I'd have gotten t-boned if i wasn't paying attention. Safe driving!! Oh! and I won't mention the times I've seen people texting and driving. Sit off an intersection and watch for yourself. Crazy out there.

Bismarck's left turn runners is caused by a incompetent Engineer tech who controls the signal lights he has left turn signals set so maybe
three cars can get through if the first guy is on the ball. I think they need a Engineer setting up the signals not that certain tech .

I beseech and implore: Please don't cruise the left lane. It is dangerous for you and others. If something happens on the other side and someone crosses; you have a few more precious feet to avoid (reactionary gap) tragedy if you're not "over there". The honky POleeces won't pull you over as much and you won't create a lot of freakn' gd rage behind your dumb ass. If you're in the left lane, pass quickly (don't be scared; you're already there), allow enough room for safety and get the eff back over. If you're in the driving lane; IT IS NOT A gD RACE. There is a REASON you're being overtaken: It is NOT a detriment upon your driving skill. Reasons include; variations in cruise control speed, weight of your vehicle vs the road grade, the draft or a simple lead foot. DON'T EFFING ACCELERATE. DON'T CREATE ANOTHER HAZARD. Death is not worth your balls. Again, its not a effing race. Let off and encourage the pass; drive a bit on the shoulder if necessary. The passer is actually a buffer between you and the honky poleeces. Black police too. If you come upon a Trooper cruising the left lane a bit too slow, PLEASE pass his/her ass. The officer is running radar to catch left lane idiots. He/She WANTS you to pass. Stop blocking up gd traffic. Thanks.

No law in our century code against driving on the inside lane. It's also not illegal to impede traffic (slowing down traffic), so you can also jumble up traffic by 'sticking it to everyone' and make it hazardous with a string of cars. These are both courtesies of the road, but not an enforceable act. SUCKS, I know...

Not true on the impeding traffic part. It is illegal in North Dakota to drive at a slow speed as to impede traffic. The law is not often enforced but it is illegal.

But, if I'm running a GPS 79-81 w/cruise and passing 3-5 semi's on '94 or '29, how much faster should I go if someone's riding my bumper? 79-81 is running a very low risk of getting a ticket, any faster and the risk of a ticket goes up exponentially. So, should I be driving faster, risking a ticket because someone else wants to drive 85?

No is the correct answer. Now ask the same question. But, set the stage on a two lane and preface it by saying the semis are going 5-10 mph under the speed limit. How fast are you allowed to go in order to pass and/or safely get back in the right lane and I bet we have all sorts of opinions or answers.

I agree with you Mr. R. I really appreciate it when someone does the ole speed up the pass for me, so I try to return the favor whenever I can.

So, how fast do I go? I run with the cruise on 99.999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time. If I'm passing a non-cruiser do I bump up to 90 to get past them? If we've just come out of a construction zone and there's a bunch of slower traffic am I supposed to speed up to 90 because the guy behind me wants to drive that fast?

I don't hog the left lane. I keep a very good eye on my mirrors and move over for faster traffic. That said, if you don't have red/blue lights on top of your vehicle, there is very little chance that I'm going to drive fast enough to run a high risk of getting a speeding ticket just for you.
