Anybody run one of these? Can you drag a sparkly boat around at ease? How's it in hills? Is the power there? Make me a believer.

I have a 2015/3.5 Ecoboost that pulls my sparkly boat easily. I know you asked about the 2.7 but thought I’d reply anyway.
In 2015 the 3.5 was more common than the 2.7 from what I saw. Curious if that’s still the case?

I'm looking for a new rig and it seems now with the newer ones the 2.7 is far more common nowadays which kinda blows my mind. I can't see myself pulling the trigger on a 2.7 tho? Gotta haul more than just groceries ya know. Or, maybe there's a reason the 1 or 2 year old used ones all have the 2.7's. Seems to be the popular motor on the used lot as of now. Either they are the new cats meow or they all have been dumped cuz they sucked.

It will be interesting to see some first hand feedback on the 2.7. The chart above tells me neither motor has changed so it seems the 2.7 is base now to keep the base price down.

Before I bought my 2013 ford f150 supercrew cab with a 5.0, I was looking at one with the 3.5 but after doing some reading on online forums the concensus was to stay away from the 3.5. If you plan on buying any ecoboost make sure it has low mileage because like any turbo engine you have to deal with carbon build up that will eventually lead to other engine issues especially on motors with high mileage. JMTC
Edit I did go over my past browser history on the 3.5 ecoboost and it was more common in the first generation 3.5
The main issue was of course dirty oil since turbo engines produce more heat and shorting the engines oil performance.

I've never wished I had less than the 3.5. You wouldn't underpower your boat, don't underpower the pickup.

Well if you look at the Toyota 701, they are no longer putting the v8 in any of the 1/2 ton pickups. All 6 cylinders now for the foreseeable future, if you are buying new you get a warranty that would atleast cover any engine issues.

Now Toyota is considering a 5.0 hydrogen powerd engine interesting

Asking any techs in any shop and you'll get all the info you need on the gummed up ecoturds. You'll become one of their best customers

Believe a few months ago had a similar thread going about these engines. I bought a 2014 F150 with the 5.0, then last year bought a new 2021 with the 5.0. Buddy that works as a service manager for Ford has always said if you buy new every 2-4 years you've got nothing to be concerned about with the Ecoboost motors. I stuck with the 5.0 because I keep trucks 5 years or more...and my 2014 was bullet proof! Performance wise, pulling a 6k trailer should not be an issue at all for weekend warriors. If you had to pull on a daily basis maybe go with the bigger motor...IMO.

I was always a V8 fan pulled my Skeeter OK and the last V8 was a 2015 F150 which pulled my WX1910. In 2016 I bought a WX2060 and I could feel the engine had to pull a little more. In 2019 I decided to go with the 3.5 Eco Boost. What changed my mind was that I sold the 2015 to my son and he has a 2012 F150 with a 3.5 and he was pulling a 29' camper around with no power problems and he said that the 5.0 was not evening close to the 3.5. After buying the 2019 with the 3.5 I had to agree with him. My nephew has a 2.7 that he uses to pull his fish house around with no problem. The big thing that I was told is to change the oil more often. I always have changed my oil on my vehicle at 3000 miles and i don't have a problem with selling them to my kids. By the way the 2015 has 137000 miles on it with no failures.

Have put 100k on my 2.7 F150 over 5.5 years. No issues other than a couple leaky oil pans that were under warranty. Plenty of power to pull my 19’ fiberglass. Very happy with it

My last F150 had the 5.0 and I loved it, however it had enough electrical gremlins that I traded it in for a 2.7 until I buy new again. The 2.7 has been good. Pulls the glass boat or the camper no problem. 20 mpg, 11 pulling. However it just seems so “light” and not really like a truck.

I Bought my 5.0 in 2014 and was told by a mechanic, at that time, to stay away from the ecoboost. I don't know much about the small diesel engines, but I kind of hope they start putting one in the F-150's. I will probably be in the market for a new truck within the next 10 years so maybe it will happen by then.

They already have a 3.0 Powerstroke in the F-150s

What is turbo lifespan? I have had two friends that had turbos crap out at around 110k. One torched his pulling his camper in the mountains but the other was just normal driving. The second only had one go bad but they said when one goes the other will shortly. 6k fix at the time. That’s been my holdup buying one.
