One of my grandpas had it bad and my dad has got flares here and there. I'm still knocking on wood and working on prevention. Always took ibuprofen, but have been trying aspirin here and there and it seems to work ok. Still got nothing against ibuprofen so far, though.

My dad had it, and I get a flare-up maybe once per year. I don't drink, and don't eat much seafood. I went to my doc, and got an open-ended scrip for Indomethacin. If I even feel a twinge coming, I take one pill, maybe one more the next day, and it never develops into pain.

I don't travel without those pills. I'm on no maintenance meds at all, but I do not leave town without them. Bad gout is awful.

Have a couple buddies with Gout and they told me about what they use. They got it from the InterWeb. They swear by it so thought i should post it.

-THE RECIPE-

1 Tablespoon of Honey
( I do not use Honey anymore as I am used to the taste and it can be a little thick and sickly )

1 Tablespoon DISTILLED WATER

1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar (make sure the Vinegar has its "Mother"in it, this is the naturally occurring strand-like enzymes of connected protein molecules formed when converting alcohol into Vinegar... its organic structure is beneficial , plus this generally is only in Organic, non pasteurized non fermented brews.)

Mix them together and drink.

Take this twice a day after meals and see the benefits in a week.

If you want you can add more water.

I have also used warm water to help melt the honey and generally I use organic honey.

It can be quite thick, and you can change the recipe and lower the honey to a teaspoon's worth if you want.

Give it a try it is worth it.

Here is a smaller version :

250 mL (8 oz) Purified Water (warm enough to melt honey)

1 to 2 teaspoons Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (Organic recommended)

1 to 2 teaspoons Honey(Local, raw, non-GMO recommended)

You didn't pay anything to get this recipe

it is simple, and works.

There you have it Apple Cider Vinegar for Gout - The Recipe-

Here are some other recipes but for general health:

The Quick Cleanser

3 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

3 Tablespoons lemon juice, fresh squeezed if possible

3 Tablespoons honey

also you can add 1/4 tsp cayenne, and 1/4 tsp fresh ginger

Mix with warm water , drink then rinse your teeth immediately due to potential staining.

--------------

For Arthritis

2 Cups of apple cider, 4 to 6 cloves of garlic

1 cup honey ,blend until smooth and put in fridge.. when ready to use add 1 tablespoon to a large glass of hot water and drink daily.

A previous co-worker of mine got it. He would wear a house slipper on one foot and his boot on the other. He was a little off...

Gotta sleep with your foot above the covers.

At the peak of a flare-up, during the night, you can feel individual molecules of air hitting your toe.

A dust-mote landing on your toe-joint, will make you sweat and pee a little bit.

I get that it hurts really bad. I just couldn't understand why he didn't just wear slippers on both feet.

My dad had a run-in with it recently and I tease him about how bad it hurts. He acted like his foot was broken and going to fall off. He could never figure out how he would have broken or even injured his foot. After a trip to the ER and then a foot specialist, he found out it was da gout.

Yup, I'm in this damn gout boat like some of you, good thing, haven't had a flare up in over a yr, but on Allopurinol 100 mg 2 a twice, I take tart cherry vitamin everyday as well. They say celery seed extract also works. I have limited my beer intact as well.
My supply of Indomethacin run out, but never requested the doc to refill it, they stuff will shut it down if it starts to flare up.

To those that don't understand the pain, its pretty much like stubbing your toe, you can't walk on it, try to put on a shoe and its like putting our foot in a vice, its very very sensitive to touch. like JayKay said, just a blanket rest on it will make it unbearable. just how bad it gets sometimes.

It all has to do with the body not getting rid of the excess build up of uric acid.., so its kidney related issue, my last doc visit, my uric acid level was quite high, yet wasn't having gout attacks...hmmmm..

Keep well my brothers!

Had my first flare up about a month or so ago, how a toe can be that painful that it wakes you up in the middle of the night is beyond me. Also having your first and hopefully last flare up at the ripe age of 39 is what colonel sherman potter would call bull cookies

I had one flare up a few years back, and swear to god I would have shot that toe off if I had a gun, followed by one to the temple. Found out after that throwing down a bunch of ibuprofen at the beginning of the episode is a big mistake and supposedly asparin is a no-no. I likely took naproxen not ibuprofen as I want to save my kidneys in case a kid needs one. I do keto and hoping that keeps that gout shit at your house cause it aint welcome here........ (bunch of periods in case I missed some)

If you know someone who suffers from it please encourage them to stop taking ibuprofen which might be causing it - not helping it. Switch to tylenol etc. (unless they are heavy boozers - then aspirin)

My experience suggests it was to blame for mine. Not a single twinge/symptom since I quit taking that crap over a year ago or so.

Why do I post this every so often? I just stop and think "geez - had someone suggested that I try this years ago I wouldn't have suffered needless episodes".

I know - everyone's chemistry is different - so it won't work for everyone - but if I can save one person from that BS my carping will have paid off. :)

How about Aleve or Celebrex? I have gout and have been on Allopurinol for the last ten years or so.
