Thats because they arent building it to make money. They are building it to be able to control us. The people behind all these data centers don't need any more money.

I bet harwood, the state of north dakota, or fargo wont make this mandatory because someone probably got a sweet financial deal.

In general, this makes a lot of sense. In this situation, there is a lot of excess power available for the data center because on Minnesota's 2040 carbon free mandate. A huge amount of power that used to go across the border will stay in ND instead to supply the data centers and keep our plants operating.

The power will still go to Minnesota. There is no way to differentiate a coal fired electron from a "green" one once it's on the grid. Minnesota will "feel" good because they think all of the power they receive is from "green" sources but Great river and Otter tail will continue to buy our "dirty" energy because there is no alternative.

Yes, they will still have to buy "dirty" electrons from the open market when their green fantasies don't work out. However, 2 major Minnesota electric companies have power purchase agreements with ND plants that are expiring soon and will not be renewed. That leaves the ND plants free to sell that capacity, no longer committed to Minnesota, to whoever they wish. This includes data centers or putting it on the open market when prices are high.

How is MN going to get the needed energy? They are shuttimg down the remaining sherco plants by 2030 and replacing with some solar panels. To me tgat not enough to replace the loss of the plants..anyone know what their plan is...other then skyrocketing the consumers electric bill?

Mahony is full of bologna if it's true that his "crew" hadn't even been briefed on his knee jerk reaction no longer video public comments.

With this cold and the storm that's hitting in the south, the power companies are on Facebook asking customers to limit energy use because the grid is getting overtaxed.

Can't wait for these data centers to fire up and use a shit ton more of power.

Maybe have to look into hooking a generator up to the house.

Ottertail has been controlling our power like crazy this winter. I have a family member that used to work at Ottertail and he said its because of the data center in Ellendale.

As long as you have a propane tank and heater that doesn't require power or a wood stove and a wood pile you would be just fine all winter. There are all sorts of camping/cooking and cool survival supplies that can all be had for 10 cents on a dollar compared to how much you would have to pay if you really needed it. It's a good feeling knowing that you could stay warm till the weather warms up if needed.

False.....I have a strong interest in applied digital. They curtailed themselves a couple days ago. Once prices get high, they shut themselves down. Paying $600 a MW isn't smart. They won't do it. They are in the business of making $$$$$ and lots of it.

Ottertail doesn't have anything there at Ellendale. Not sure what that has to do with it.

This whole ordeal is a MISO and SPP footprint issue not one company or ND. South of us is well below normal temps.

Good to know. I wonder why Ottertail has been controlling us so much this year? It seems like its significantly more than previous years.

Data centers can and will be a problem. But in this instance, not so much. I don't know too much about ottertail, other than when I had them, they had some of the best rates around. That was a few years ago. 7 cents a kw and I was not signed up for load management program or whatever they called it.

We had our backup generator installed for our house a few months ago. Not cheap, but with the current state of our electric grid and projected demand growth for electricity it made sense.

Solar Panel Arrays covering farmland doesn't make any sense to me in their grand scheme of reducing a carbon footprint or impacting "climate change". Plants turn CO2 into O2.
I sure wouldn't want to be the person who has to go out into the middle of one of those big panel gardens on a hot day. 160Ac full of black panels on say a 90 degree summer day, those panels are going to be HOT and radiating a lot of heat as well!! Workers are going to need a cooled space suit.

What's the reason/ purpose of AI?

I hate fake ANYTHING.
solve the mysteries of the universe, medical breakthroughs, global domination, entertainment is just a byproduct. If we end up with a super intelligence, which many experts are predicting in the not very distant future, it will change everything. In some ways, we are quite literally creating what may be to us, essentially gods. Think about how your dog relates to you as far as intelligence and motivation are concerned, in this scenario, we are the dog.
