As in South Dakota? I don't think it would be possible because the Pike was caught in Ashtabula.
Didn't see anywhere in the post stating it was caught in Ashtabula, was thinking if Oahe, or Missouri River system IDK, guess I'm not a mind reader.

seems like that tag could adversely affect the fish over time, maybe they need to use bigger tags or something.

I'll absolutely keep all of you updated when I find something out. I figure I'll give it a week to see if anything comes in via snail mail. After that, I'll call NDGF to see if they can give me anymore info.

Well, pretty uneventful ending to the story. I got a letter in the mail today from the NDGF aka "the agency that didn't tag the fish" stating that the fish was tagged on 4/11 and was 38.6" and was released pretty much right where I caught it.

So, I'll leave it up to your imagination. Either the NDGF sub contracts the tagging studies and lets that "agency" retain the data collected until requested; or, nobody there really knows what's going on. Im a little disappointed because I feel I was led to believe there was a more interesting story to the pike. Oh well, the link below is the pickling recipe I've been using for years and I find it delightful.

Closest college would be Valley City State University I guess. Here is a pic of the actual tag.

I caught a pike with the same blue tag in it here on oahe a few years back. hardly got any info back on it, nothing like the info you get back on a walleye tag
