No ice here yet but the cloud following the lake is pretty damn cool looking
This was as of midday yesterday. Looks like the main ice is down to right at Yates with free floating chunks down to about pollock. Would have to assume it made some big gains last night and can't be all that far from you.

And for anyone who is wondering about whatsome going on out in the middle of the state here's a look. if the lake is some what dark I have to guess it's newer ice with little snow on it vs lakes like Horsehead that for the life of me can hardly make out. only see one lake open other the sak and DL and that's lake George by Napoleon.

Looks like the flats were all locked up yesterday.

I have been watching those satelite images as well Dean. They have been kind of tricky because of all the clouds lately. I think anything dark blue is still open, Sak/Audobon is a good indicator of what froze vs open looks like.

Here is the link for everyone for NASA daily satelite. You can play with the map and go back in time. Our area updates in the afternoon.

Yeah I'm very curious to see today's with this cold high pressure over us clearing out most of the clouds. handy for keeping track of the ice and to see the snow line. I'm also curious about lake George because that little shit is a hard one to freeze and was the last open last year as well. it must be really deep or very salty or something to be so hard to freeze yet is not stocked. anyone familiar with the lake?

This year reminds me of 2012-13 I was muskrat trapping up by Wolford ND in negative Temps and lots of snow all winter. We got two feet of snow on devils that winter and not even the snobears could get around.

Sweet Jesus a hundred and fifty feet deep and high salt content I'm surprised the damn thing ever freezes! Have to sit down and read that it looks very interesting thanks for posting it.

Actually that used to happen a fair bit back in the 90's. Shit you not I've seen guys ice fish between the dam and the plant which over all seemed to be perhaps not the best idea ever. If you get them doing maintenance during a big Cold Snap I've seen it freeze all the way up into the canal. God it used to suck coming over the hill and see the lake locked up and or locking up and knowing you were screwed that day.

Well, I grew up seven miles from nelson lake. The only part I've ever seen freeze is the very north section where square butte creek dumps in. Remember the guys on the bass boat??? So, I don't believe nelson will freeze over. It's anywhere from 89 to 104 degrees at the output.

I also witnessed drilling via snapchat, don't think it was ice that was being drilled though and guessing a 8 inch auger was being used:)

Salt lake is not stocked and can not be fished. no reason to even worry if the lake freezes or not:;:smokin

PS: Avery Lakes near Lehr have walkable ice

I saw 2 portables out from channel A tonight. I do not advise going out there yet. It was only what I could see from the highway.

Yep right up until the plant turns off one or both units. At that point ice builds fast and has on multiple occasions in past years.
