I'm pretty sure I've seen on the rules that crossbows are not allowed at the Mandan Archery range. Is Bismarck the same way? If so what is the reasoning? I'm not trying to go out and break rules but I've got a buddy due to wheel chair can only shoot a crossbow.

Just talked to one of the board member at Nishu tonight to get you an answer. First thing that is needed is a permit from G & F for a crossbow. 2nd you will need to supply your own target. The main reason on this has to deal with parks and rec as Nishu leases the building and land from Parks and Rec. Parks and rec has an issue with crossbows being used on their targets. Parks and rec rules and Nishu just has to follow them. If you need anything else let me know. Probably not the answer you wanted but thats what I got for ya.

Thanks! That's kind of what I was expecting . Just wasn't sure if it was the targets they were worried about or some other reason.

They hit with so much power that they tend to blow the targets out faster. As for the permit that's kind of a BS rule since anyone can use a crossbow for deer hunting in the Nov season if they wanted no permit required not to mention varmint hunting or hunting out of state.

The same applies for the Mandan range. When we developed those rules, our biggest concern was to minimize the damage to the targets. As long as they have their own target it's not a big deal.
