Even though all these temps are technically below average they still look damn good to me!

i agree with you guy --- 1997 we never had this high of drifts. I just shoveled my roof --- my sewer vent was covered (one of them) -- never in my life have i had to shovel the roof --the wind always blows it off.

It’s like trying to decipher hieroglyphs

For all the times I've been at a loss for words to describe my feelings, you captured all those complex thoughts in a very concise manner. Despite what everyone else says about you, you rule!

97 we had warnings out for people on snowmobiles to watch out for powerlines...... I think we're still a little bit short of that particular achievement!

In my experience, people have very selective memories.

You wouldn't believe the number of people I talk to each year that say "I've lived here 50 years and this is the first time ….". Data pisses them off.

not selective -- the wind blew like a SOB in 97 certain spots yes -- but i am talking overall in my yard --- lots more -- plus you add the 12 that we get thursday.

if we get the 2 inches of rain that will settle it --- but that looks to be more east

The problem this year is we haven't had ANY melting throughout the winter so the snow just keeps piling up. Even in Bismarck where it is a pretty average year, there is a lot of snow piled up.

Not close to 97 yet, although if we had a comparable early April blizzard it would get very dicey. Can remember we still had 3-4 foot drifts in our yard when we had to evacuate GF and that was April 18 or 19.

No question 1 storm could change the whole thing in a big hurry. Take for instance that monster coming up our Direction right now Wednesday night into Thursday. Now if Bismarck were to suddenly get that storm like the area Southwest of Pierre is set to get that would instantly make the drifts at least probably on par with comparable to 97 since they're talking 20 + inches of snow and winds over 60. This year has just been completely weird in the fact that up until this last storm we really haven't even had a storm it's just these little 2 to 3 inch drops that just start to add up over time. Adeno temps high enough to melt anything and not only do you get a fair bit of snow in your yard but you get people that are starting to get a little bit grumpy at the snow in the yard. I myself am extremely curious to see how this next storm works out because even four or five inches of snow with 50 mile an hour winds with this much snow already on the ground is going to blow around like a son of a b**** and it's going to be far more impactful than it would normally be if we didn't have so much snow already here.

So a quick serious question regarding this Wed/Thu storm track. My daughter and grandson are driving up here from Omaha Thursday...they were planning to leave early Thursday morning, but the timing of this thing looks bad for the I29/I94 route on Thursday...maybe they should wait to hit the road until Friday?

Don't much care what it does as long as the brunt of it stays South. At the moment Cleveland looks to be in the middle of the snow bomb.

I'd have them wait FinFan.... Everything the SPC has posted says it'll be much worse south of us. They'll either get stranded somewhere, stuck, or worst case in an accident. The wind alone will shut 94/29 down in a matter of half a day.

We are glad for this thread to keep us informed of your weather in ND, SD, & MN.
What a perfect winter for us having moved to AZ. Also glad we sold our Bismarck house as the stress of dealing with the snow all winter would have brought on another stroke, this is what my bride and the Doctor said and i finally listened to them!
Haven't talked with our farm renter yet, he has been calving since first part of February and can only imagine how hard it has been. He runs 400+ head of cows plus buys bred heifers and calves them out too.
Nice to see the pictures on here and thanks for that too. Really feel sorry for y'all having to deal with this and hopefully it will be a slow thaw so you don't have to deal with flooding on top of this snow.

If this storm hits mobridge like they say this will be the most snow on record and make 97 its bitch. I think the big difference is 97 started in october and didnt quit till april. It was still 50 here in the middle of december

This is about as close to 1997 as short is to sober.

No spring fishing is putting you river rats in a bad mood. Dry january has led into dry feb and march --- i dont even get to get a st. patty drink.

This storm looks like the type that can close roads for days. With the huge snow pack already in place roads will begin to drift shut almost immediately and with every time they run the model it slides a little further north and west putting Bismarck now in around 6 in of snow and wind gusts to 60 so you can pretty well Bank on 94 and I-29 probably be being closed for a decent amount of time. The only Saving Grace in your particular setup is that as she shift slightly west and North it frees up more and more of I-29 every time she does.

What this the storm definitely has the potential to do is to be the death knell to certain groups of pheasants. We've already got a number of areas where the populations are scraping the bottom of the barrel And now you swing a storm like this through there with 60 mile an hour winds and that's going to be about all she wrote.
