Mexico vacation

So between #guywhovactionsthirdworldstyle and JuanR’s Cabo trip…just wondering what type of winter get-a-way people prefer?

If the destination is Mexico…Gulf? Or Pacific side? Ixtapa or Cozumel?

I like all-inclusive and I like the beach…not really have any other prerequisites

All inclusive, beach, no other prerequisites sure makes it easy. I'd pick anything close to the US. Places like Caymans, Jamaica, etc are easily reached in 5-6 hours, all have great weather (unlike FL in winter which can suck), and sand/beach.

I'd pay close attention to climate and make sure it's statistically low chance that you'd get rained out. It's rainy here but we knew that when we picked the date (other complications). No hunter/fisher from ND with any sense would pick October. Other drivers forced our hand on an October date.

I liked Mazatlan when I was there in 2005ish. Some good off-shore fishing can be had apparently. If you see my wanted poster down there, just ignore it. It was just a big misunderstanding.

I do like this idea and it is currently on the things to do list...I have really looked into St. John too a little less populated...however I do not think it is in the cards this year...

I like FL but as guywhoissometimesright stated climate is too unpredictable...Mexico seems to be the easiest on the pocket book this year, I want guaranteed 80+ degree weather and white sand beach...

I have been to a few different places south of Cancun and have always had a good time. Most are all inclusive if you want. Are you going with kids? If so, Sandos Playacar is really nice. If not, El Dorado Royale is awesome. That whole Playa del Carmen area is great. Beautiful water and some close eco-parks that are fun to visit.

The western side of Mexico is more mountainous and the Puerto Vallarta area is really nice. The water will not be pretty, but the food is a little better. The Puerto Vallarta are has great whale and dolphin watching.

I would not go to Mazatlan -- it's the center of a lot of drug cartel activity. I think there's even a pretty stern travel advisory for that particular area.

Pick a place unpopular with divers, this greatly reduces pricing IMO.

Grand Cayman is expensive but diving, even shore diving, is excellent.

Did that change recently? I don't remember that problem but it has been a decade.

I was in the Bahamas October of 2013 with the kids on a Disney cruise, we went to 3 islands on a 5 day cruise, then to Disney world for 4 days. It was fun, but I would rather have spent the 9 days on the sands of an all inclusive. We have had our best trips, and most fun on the beaches of Mexico.
We are headed to Houston, and down to Galveston TX to visit my brother in law November 11th to the 18th. Galveston is a real nice area in the states to winter visit also, just not during the first 3 weeks of November, another deer season interrupted with my any antlered deer tag...mrs johnr is my travel organizer, and seems to forget about deer season.

she didn't forget about it. That was well thought out in advance.

We went to the dominican for our honeymoon a couple years ago. Besides being sick for 3 days, I had a pretty damn good time. beach, pool, all inclusive, great rooms/service. Breathless Resort in punta cana.

Other than the flights, St. Thomas was cheap. stay on the non tourist trap side of the island and hotels, beach houses, etc are reasonable, so is the food & beverages, and prime diving & fishing can be done right from shore anywhere on the island. I'd recommend Red Hook.

We will be a stones throw away at St. John this winter. Heavier fishing gear will be with this year in order to get the last laugh on a Tarpon.

I second that that the El Dorado Royal just outside of Cancun is one hell of a good time. The wife has some pretty comical videos of me after I had let's say a few too many tequila shots or something like that.

I agree 1000% with this.............. Never have been to Mexico and never will go........ and if I had my way I wouldn't buy anything from Mexico, that is bout impossible though

...or I can pay a minimal amount (because airfare is what gets you, and that's a US company) and do my best to deplete their local resources of food, corona and tequila..."take that you dirty Mexican and give another shot...that'll learn you"

I tried to drink the lounge in Porte Vallarta dry about 5 years ago, they were up to my shenanigans. I have since been drinking in my garage trying to prep for this winters journey, as long as my wifes will let me...hahaha

Perhaps buy a few cases of Mexican vanilla to bring back and sell to offset the cost . WINNING !!!!!!!!!!!
