Here in Dickinson, the voters just voted in a pretty large property tax increase to fund some school remodeling, as the oil boom boosted our population and more space and whatnot are in dire need, however the tax revenue this has added to the state budget right here in western ND has been removed from our coffers and put into some type of east river diversion for the greater good, we will take it in the arse like usual.

Just happy that all the tiling of the red river valley farm land will now have a solution, and we western folks can pay for it.

at least a kiss on the cheek would be nice..

And there is a huge issue with this credit and how it is worded.

Quite a few people are disqualified because they have their house in a trust.

I’ve already contacted legislators about it and that was an “oversight” and those people were not supposed to be disqualified.

Supposedly they are working on a fix for it but those disqualified will have to wait until next year to try again and hopefully get a credit for both years.

Bunch of bullshit.

With 40k in signatures I have a feeling it will pass. That's almost half of the votes for the primary. There is a group out there trying to oppose this...always love the people that support other people spending their money for them. This passes and it gets rid of all the bullsvit tied to property....another words keep the genius politicians away from your property.

Ward county and Minot budgets have popped up in the Minot Daily the last 2 days.

If the county commissioners leave the budget as is without trimming spending it will raise property taxes $128.00 on a $200,000 house.

The city budget (if they use some of the $20 to $30 million they have in cash) would decrease taxes $21.00 per $100,000 of home values.

The city is contemplating what to do with the police\old city hall building. Remodel the old city hall at a cost of around $50 million to enlarge the police dept. building or build a new police dept. for around $70+ million. This is the estimate from a year ago from a consulting firm the city hired.

My grip is that they just redid the retaining wall that is on the east and south sides of the police dept. at a cost of $9 million to expand the parking lot for the dept.

If they are going to move the dept. to a new location why did the city spend $9 million on a retaining wall?? 🤬

Lincoln, kinda...
Are they planning on letting it go back to nature, or is there another use for the area?

One can't think this space will go unused, can they?

They don't say what will happen to the building if the police dept. moves.

The dept. captain said that even with the remodel 1. it won't be big enough. 2. In the 2002 train derailment, the NH3 cloud that drifted into town impacted the departments operation. That can happen no matter where they build a new one, if they do, from tornadoes to snowstorms or maybe by a gasoline tanker crashing by the new building. 3. In 2011 they had to build a 20-foot dike around the building to protect it from flood water and he is worried about flooding again.............Isn't the city spending $2 billion on flood protection for the whole valley???

When faced with inflation the government agencies response is to raise taxes instead of doing what the average person is forced to do and that is cut back.

The state has been handing out grants and funding these special interest projects with excess money over and above our annual budget. If ALL property taxes are eliminated in ND, all the state has to do is redirect this money to local governments to replace the money from property taxes. It is estimated to cost the state around 1.2 billion dollars a year to fund this while the state has a surplus of over 2 billion and spends it in the following manner. Read these charts and you will see the waste and corruption.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota voters will decide this fall whether to eliminate property taxes in what would be a first for a state and a major change that officials initially estimate would require more than $1 billion every year in replacement revenue.

Secretary of State Michael Howe’s office said Friday that backers submitted more than enough signatures to qualify the constitutional initiative for the November general election. Voters rejected a similar measure in 2012.
