IDK, I copied and pasted my parcel ID right from the counties GIS website. Took me all of 5 minutes to do it and got my confirmation email a minuter or two later. I thought it seemed too easy, lol.

Suppress:

The cost of schools, cities, counties need to be paid by some method. Many years ago they came up with this method. If by property tax or funds by the state, those funds got there and i would assume one way or another by all by us. We cannot print monies like the feds do.

Someone in the county payroll comes up with what your house is worth. Not the best system. What is fair? If your neighbor has the same house as you and its valuation if half yours then you have a solid complain. And the nicer home you have the more you paid as it is assumed you have more funds. Go to the county courthouse and all that information is there for you to look up.
You should be able to come up with what is fair.

Famers/ranchers do not pay property tax on their home if they meet certain qualification which most do. So is that fair?

Why a sale tax was always considered fairer, based on what you buy. A nicer toy because you can afford a nicer toy means you pay more.

Now i am open to how to pay for things like police. Maybe defund your police department. Issue taken care of. Right? Defund your school.

I understand the concerns and have the same concerns. I will assume you have become involve in your school board, city council or county commissioner to fix the problems. db

Site wont recognize my parcel number, very frustrating.
Are you trying to do on mobile phone? Yesterday I put info in and pulled up proper address and our unit #. Was showing error on unit # so couldn't proceed. Neighbors same deal. Today, I did on my Kindle and it registered properly. Just a thought or maybe there was a glitch in the system yesterday.

still not completely a fan of totally eliminating them. lot of thought and discussion gone into this over the last decade or so. but, maybe i could get behind it for primary residences. or for nd residents only.

but, problem with doing away for just some is that the rest will probably shoulder the burden.
A initiated measure to cap on property taxes for the next decade may actually spur action from the legislature to actually fox this issue. How oblivious the politicians are to this issue is sickening!

$500 rebate is a joke

I am on a band wagon now but in our county with the help of our local economic director we got a wind farm. Part of the plus was property tax of around $600-700,000. Those monies were to go to the county which was a large impact to our local needs. Then the state changed the rules, and all funds went to the state and not to us. I complain and they then said will send some of those funds back to us. Did they? Why take it if you're going to send it back?

Saving for a rainy day but not to this extend for an unknow need. i feel taxing for an unknow need and not spending is not ethical. I do not trust what one in Bismarck will use those funds for and for the benefit of a handful either. db

My PID was different between the City website and the County website (a few extra zeros added) - make sure you're using the County number.

Not where I'd like to be
@db-2 I agree that certain things need to be paid for. It's the way they are paid for that irks me. The very idea of continuing to pay for something you already own is the issue. That does not compute inside a rational brain. Neither does the completely arbitrary way they decide how much I pay.
There is no amount that is "fair".

The bottom line is people are going to miss the credit. Now one can say its all over the news etc.
However
I always give my little old lady story ----- I had a little old lady working way into her 70s -- she made enough in wages and her house was modest in in which the MN property tax refund was zero. She retired and started getting refunds. She told her retired for a long time sister about it and low and behold her sister qualified and probably qualified for 10 years. Her sister missed 10 years worth of refunds of over a grand to 1500 a piece. Thats where the ball drops.

Why not have a check the box on 2023 property tax form when it is paid check if it is your primary residence or not.. If the person doesnt check it then you send it back to them until it is checked. Then in 2024 you have the general fund transfer the 5 hundo to the county. It is that simple. Base it on 23 residency and 24 when it comes to 25s taxes.

Nope ND has to treat like a rebate so people miss it.

note it doesnt state your application for credit has been accepted. Just says recieved. I bet if a wrong digit gets entered for parcel -- they never track it down. 11 months from now how many will forget about it and never check to see if they got the 5 hundo.

I was in typical fashion thinking it would be 10 pages for a government deal. Wow 2 minutes. Will see it to believe it.

The way they are giving this out says all we need to know about our government. They are intentionally try to take advantage of us. Knowing all won't submit and hoping that as many as possible won't submit. Greedy fucks!

Talked about this at work - only sense we could make is that the credit only applies to your primary residence, so by having you fill out the form you're designating your primary residence. If you then try to claim a credit for a cabin the system will show that you've already claimed the credit as it's tied to your SSN. Granted the state has the info to figure all this out without having to have us apply, but then we're relying on them to not screw it up, so maybe in this case they recognize the challenge and are taking the clean way out.

Menards 11% "off". Thankful for this site to help remind one to "send in their receipts" to get "paid".

I'll maintain there is nothing inherently wrong with property tax. If done properly (which it is not currently), it is a direct use tax which is the most rational form of taxation.

I understand the notion that you never truly own your home when property taxes exist, but that's like saying you never truly own your home if it needs periodic maintenance and repairs. No reasonable person thinks a home will last forever with no further investment.

Homes are generally closely associated with roads, water, sewer, police, fire departments and schools. All of those things cost money to build, maintain and operate just the same as maintaining a lawn, replacing worn appliances or paying the electricity bill.

The existence of a property tax is not the problem. The problem is the spending on corporate welfare, socialist programs and corruption that result in high property taxes.
