This quote shows a basic misunderstanding of the Christian faith. If one becomes a Christian and accepts Christ as their Savior, they have nothing to "fear".

God sent his son Christ to accept all of the "punishment" of our sins and provide a release from those "fears". If you are a practicing Christian with a basic faith, what do you have to fear, you have been promised life eternal where the trials and pain and flaws of this life are gone. You have the ability to reunite with family and friends in a life perfect from this one we lead on earth.

Where is the "mystery", the "defeat" or the "fear" ?

Cruelty comes from those that that would USE religion for their personal means departed from the teachings of Christianity and some other religions.



Russell was a socialist, liberal and a pacifist. He was an agnostic and an atheist.

The irony of his life in philosophy is that he suggested religion was nothing more than a "superstition" and basically make believe.............yet as a avowed pacifist he lived his life believing in a fairy tale utopia where aggression, violence, cruelty and basic human nature would cease to exist.

He in essence wanted the world to be what a Christian faith provides yet dismissed the faith of religions that sought to provide this very thing.

Spot on gst. Much the same misunderstanding as those who talk of killing in the name of religion, and think Christians are just like Muslims. You will find many that erroneously believe Christians were at fault for the Crusades. At the same time they will call Islam a religion of peace. Some days a person wants to say "beam me up Scotty there is no intelligent life down here".
