I hope they keep enough water in the diversion to fish all year. From the pics I've seen looks like the dams are gonna create some great spots.
classicUsed to fish the little dam on the west side of the west bypass in Minot with very good success. Quite a few years ago they fenced it off and plastered no trespassing signs all over![]()

The current diversion allows fishing all over, I bet the other one will be the same. Never know thoughknowing guvment these days, they’ll rope it all off
The dam on the maple river? Also if it’s the dam I’m thinking of, it’s private land. As far as the diversion lord knows if it’ll be open but if it is, I hope you like carp.
Sorry - I was referring to the small dam in Minot tikkalover mentioned. That dam is surrounded by private land if him and I are talking about the same one.The dam on the maple river?
That's the spot I was talking about. I was planning on going there. didn't know it was posted nowThere used to be an awesome spot for cats north of Fargo where the Sheyenne and Maple met. Me and my college buddies were regulars there. Not posted, but a sign that said clean up and absolutely no fires.
As time went on we noticed more and more trash. We’d pack out what we could, but it always got worse. I think we were there when the landowner hit his breaking point. We were fishing a Friday evening after class. A plume of smoke started to rise down river from us, and we saw him fly by on his atv. Heard some yelling and the smoke died. He left, and not an hour later the smoke started to rise again. He came through even madder and after another yelling session, he had the group marching out in front of him. He didn’t make us leave, but it was posted up solid the next time we showed up. That’s how she goes.
Same thing happened at a dam out my way called Browns Dam on my beloved Sheyenne river. The guy who owns the land allowed everyone to come and enjoy the great fishing for decades. He even put a dumpster and some picnic tables out there for folks to use at his own expense. Then one summer some buttholes set the dumpster on fire, broke all their glass beer bottles on the rocks by the river, and then to top it off, threw the picnic tables into the dumpster fire to boot. Been locked up tight ever since. Been 40 years since anyone has fished that place. I only fished it once when I was about 10 when my uncle took me there. Shameful what people do sometimes. There used to be an awesome spot for cats north of Fargo where the Sheyenne and Maple met. Me and my college buddies were regulars there. I walked in from the main road a couple years ago about this time of the year and the grass and weeds were taller than me.That's the spot I was talking about. I was planning on going there. didn't know it was posted now
Yeah if I have to hike through weeds at a spot I’ll just turn around…. Hate wood ticks and mosquitoesI walked in from the main road a couple years ago about this time of the year and the grass and weeds were taller than me.
It’s been 15 years since I’ve been there. Maybe worth a look. That's the spot I was talking about. I was planning on going there. didn't know it was posted now
