Thinking of buying a car from Bismarck Honda. They wanted $500 for a car starter, installed (it wasn't a great one, just one that got the job done). Is this price in line from what others want?

I think I bought my viper from best buy for 250. I like it but the remotes are junk. Or my wife throws her keys on the ground to signify she's home.

a good two-way starter with any type of range will run $400-$500 installed...
For example: I have an Astro start with the display screen that tells you when the vehicle is started…I work in a concrete building and can start my truck parked in a concrete parking ramp next door…from my desk, without being able to see the vehicle…I think it ran about $450 installed

Lincoln, kinda...
Make sure to inquire about any odd little features that particular brand may have.

I have one installed by Theel in my Toyota. Frigging hate that it LOCKS my doors when I don't want them locked. And you can't use your car's factory remote entry to get into the vehicle once you start it with this brand.

Both features really piss me off.

The good news is if the dealership installs it then they are the only place to go when there are issues. If somebody else installs it and you have any issues, they blame each other. I have really been enjoying my On Star app for my GMC this past week. Never even leave my desk to start it. :)

1Mi Astrostart in momma's car has been in there for 10 trouble free years.

Had a trouble-free Astro in my previous truck for ~3yrs.

Current rig has an Astro for almost 5yrs, over 100K and never an issue. Over water with a clear line of sight based on GPS I can start my truck @ just over 1Mi. I've been able to start both previous and current truck in the Fargodome parking lot from the Fargodome floor during the Sportsmans and boat shows.

The only minor complaint I have is that the newest one comes with an internal rechargeable battery and sometimes I forget to charge it.

We had one installed on our 15 Honda CRV last winter at Bismarck Motors where we bought the car. It is a Compustar WSST 2 way and it works good for us. We don't use it a lot but seems to do what we wanted out of it. Probably does way more than we know what to do with it but all we wanted was to lock / unlock and start the car and let us know the car is started.
Works like it should.

I've always had Astrostarts and don't think I've heard anyone talk bad about them. Unlike other brands. I know at a Sioux hockey game I can start my car even when it's in a remote parking lot from inside the building before the game is over. And deer hunting I've started it from over a mile away. If the vehicle has OnStar I believe you can run it through there on most of the newer cars.

I know ownership has changed but unless the techs have changed as well, that isn't completely true. My experience with them was far from great - in fact completely terrible.

To the point of the owner calling my gf a bitch right to my face. After I sat and listened to 15 minutes of his bullshit and name calling - I said to him - I listenedd to you, now listen to me - as I explained what I discovered with their "fantastic installation" - he said bring it in and we will fix it.

2 years of bullshit back and forth and their "awesome" techs couldn't figure out their install was f*cked up.

I just got the 3,000 found range Compustar from Pacific Sound in Bismarck 2 weeks ago. They quoted me $450 but charged me $350, I even questioned them when I paid. I park a fair ways from my office in a cement building and it reaches it nicely. I couldn't be happier with it.
