I'm not even sure how you give a negative rep. I thought I may have by mistake one day when trying to see how things worked. So I contacted V. He may have explained it, but it was to long ago for me to remember. I have given a lot of thumbs up. Is that the positive rep?
I like to look at the received and given thumbs up. I have more hours in psychology than I ever wanted, but I think the people who give more than receive are kind hearted. Lot of great people. :;:thumbsup

Click on the green plus at the bottom of someones post and you can 'REP' them....

This operation sounds like an Obama socialist operation. Rep points should be earned IMHO....not "redistributed".

This is one of the unfortunate uses of REP I have discovered. I have gotten several negative reps from people not for being 'out of line', but just because they share different opinions than I do. It can be used as a way to punish people you dont agree with. Originally I was hoping V would disable the ability to give negative rep, but it doesnt look like that is going to happen... Also it could potentially be used by a group of individuals to 'remove' someone they dont like, but hopefully that wont happen.

The first book I had to read in college English was "Lord of the Flies". If your familiar with it you may see some parallels.

Trying to get a good positive thing going for everyone who wants to participate, and someone dings me for it.... Oh well, it wont ruin my day!!!

For those bashing this idea, out of curiousity I gave Lycan a good rep.

First time ever, I was kinda scared , my hands were sweaty, and I was breathing fast. I typed the wrong letters a couple of times as I fumbled with the keyboard trying to unlock the mysteries of the reputation thingy, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Any ways, after I stopped being dizzy with excitement, as I finish my cigarette at my keyboard exhausted from this first time experience, I noticed the comment that popped up from NA itself. couldn;t do the copy and paste I am famous for but here it is.

The page at Nodak Angler says:

So it would seem that NA supports doing exactly what Lycan started.

But that is likely just "alpha dog" kinda thinking so maybe Lycan is an a$$hat for trying to have a little fun.

I may be way off base here but seems like the thumbs up thing is more of a light hearted way to let your opinion be know without posting. The reputation system seems to be more serious because there are repercussions for receiving bad ones.

I would like to see a thumbs down button and make all rep points be of a non anonymous nature. Damn that is worded so poorly I had to look and see if I had a Bison shirt on.

The rep thingy would work, will still work even in political discussions if people aren;t jack asses and let their panties get wadded up over some comments from some fella on he internet.
