I recently moved to Minot and I'm really into spearing. How is the water clarity on Sak? I was planning to drive to Devils every weekend but figured Sakakawea might be another good option for pike over 10lb. Thanks guys

The mid to eastern end of the lake, pretty clear. I would think you could see 10 feet down with no problem.

Waters almost always crystal clear. The pike in sakakawea are consistently the biggest in the state. steinke bay, centennial bay, douglas bay, government bay, and wolf creek areas are all great for big pike.

Yes, it should be nice and clear. Please catch and release those over 10lbs so they get to 20 or 30 lbs though. :;:stirthepot

Wow thanks for the replies guys I'll definitely head out there.

Also it says I only have 1 post, but I was somewhat active on fishingbuddy for years when I was younger and have always followed this site.

Careful, some may take that statement as blasphemy. I'll let someone else explain.

Stienkie Bay on the east end of Sakakawea has maybe 2ft of visibility today

Is that unusual for it to be that "cloudy"? I only fish Sak a few times each winter and it has always been very clear so this surprises me.

It usually takes about ten days to clear up after it has frozen over and gets better as the season progresses. I sure the wind recently hasn't helped. I believe the east end is still open.

I have encountered plenty of fish in the teens there in recent years.

Put house on Douglas Bay 4 days ago. Been slow. Can see bottom in 8' on one end of the house but not in 13' on other end. Might move to a different spot if we can get back to it after storm! About 12" of ice.

I didn't know they were jigged until a couple years ago. Seriously.

On sakakawea I find muddying up the gin clear water with my decoy and then jigging seams to attract them the only problem is they get a little too aggressive
