Thinking of switching up my scope on my yote rifle. (22.250) Any recommendations for a scope that gathers decent light, higher magnification than average...say over 9 power? Also not an overly spendy one?

Do you want a reticle for hold overs, ffp or sfp, illuminated reticle, turrets exposes or capped and what is top end is hard to know. Is weight a concern be able to narrow it down more with some answers

Not where I'd like to be
"Overly spendy" is relative. Please elaborate.

To me, I'd be looking at a Leupold VX5 HD 3-15. Those can be had for ~$800, which to me represents a good value on a midrange scope, but may be
"Overly spendy" to you.

A lot of the vortex or Athlon series will probably fit your cheap, yet bang for the buck. seems to be a lot of sales on the viper line from vortex(200 bucks off) a lot of other good options to hard to say but you can get some great options in these two brands for under 300. I have the Athlon ares and argos so far so good, the argos had a stuck mag ring, that may have been user error but i sent it in they sent me a new one. I have a couple different cheaper vortex scopes viper and below and I haven't had to warranty one yet, and they have all performed well for me. Decide on a price range and options like FFP or SFP, capped or uncapped turrets, availability of custom turrets, reticle style and illumination, zoom and objective size, weight, tube diameter, etc. which are all kind of personal preferences. Depending on what you are coming from currently there are a lot of good scopes in the 2-400 dollar range out there, If you are looking at more expensive there are even nicer ones.

No need for anything over 9 x on a 22-250.
It's a 350 yard cartridge.
Nikon( without the stupid circles), vortex diamond back, leoupold vx2, redfielld. Any of those will be fine for coyotes without breaking the bank.

I Have a Vortex Viper 4-16 on my coyote gun. Its a .243 Ackley and its the cats ass. You can get one for about $550. I am getting another one next year and upgrading my deer rifle optics.

I put a startup scope brand on my 6.5. I got a 3 x 16 x 42 turret with illuminated reticle for $125. I thought it was a gamble but man do I like it. I have shot out to 500 yards with it so far, shooting a 3 inch group at 300 and 4-5 inch group at 500. Might not sound like the best to some but conditions were not the best and I was using a bipod kneeling on the ground, not a bench with a sled.

Not sure if they still have the one I got but they have the 3 x 12 x 42 for $100. For the price I really dont think you can go wrong.

Yep i shoot 75 grain amax to 900 in my .22-250. That being said I am pushing them at 3400 FPS and they will splash something fierce. I am in the process of loading 75 grain swift scirroco’s now and hoping they mushroom nice.

Put a Vortex Diamondback 3-12x42 on my 7mm 08 this summer. You can find them very often for around $250-$300 if you have a couple months to wait and watch multiple sale flyers. Plenty of magnification to shoot at 400 yards at the range. Give it a look, sounds similar to what you are looking for.

Confidently touched a caribou at 624 with this set up so that was pretty neat.

There seems to be some good deals out there right now. I picked up a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9x40 yesterday for $179 on Dicks to throw on an AR.

Good ideas...thanks! I should have been a little more clear. But I guess I wasn't clear because I am open to anything. I guess I may prefer closed caps and sfp. I will check out those listed. thanks!

Any opinions how this compares to a Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42 if they could be had for about the same price?

Quite silly. 9x at 350 sucks compared to 14x

Leupold Model 170702 can be had for around $450

VX-3i 4.5-14x44, CDS dial, windplex reticle, side-focus parallax adjustment, weighs ~15oz.

Cons: low-end magnification sucks (shrinks the FOV below 6x) and slight shift in eye relief from min to max magnification.

ETA: $438 shipped https://www.gunbroker.com/item/789566247

[FONT=Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]I've got a Leupold VX-2 6-18x40mm adjustable objective scope on my heavy barrel 22-250. It works great on prairie dogs out to 450-500 yards or so, I really like it and wish Leupold still made it. I have a Leupold VX3 4.5-14 on my light 22-250 and it really shines there.

If I remember right both were around $500 or so each, money well spent in my book.
