I've poo-poo'd standing desks since they came out as some millennial invention to shun chair-sitting office folks as uncool or not with the times.

But after more than a decade as a desk jockey under my belt, I've finally had enough and thought maybe there's something to it. Part of it is that I'm trying to stay healthy and active, and sitting for 10 hours straight seems to counteract whatever run or workout I get in at the end of the day. But the other part is I can literally feel my body turning to mush when I sit endlessly, every day.

Since I don't foresee a career change any time soon that may involve an increase in activity during the day (unfortunately my best concrete working years were in the early- to mid-00's), this seems like the next best thing. I feel a lot better during the day, and actually have more energy when I get home and it's time to make supper and hang out with the kids.

Anyway, that's my lame input for the day.

God I need to go fishing.

I'll second the standing desk. I spend the non-winter months mostly hiking for work, and found out I really suck at sitting at a desk all winter. Terrible posture while sitting, can barely spell ergonomics. Standing desk solved those issues for me

i made the switch a few months back. mostly worried about a heart attack. i think the article i read a long time ago said there was no bigger predictor of heart attacks in the male population that sitting at a desk all day. even worse than booze and smokes. could be mis remembering. i don't stand all day. but, most of the day.

I've been looking into them lately as well. I sit on my ass Mon-Thur and then build furniture on Friday and Saturday. I've been thinking about buying one of these frames and adding a live edge top to it. We have a few people in our office that have stand up desks and they swear by them. They have been slowly convincing me its the right thing to do.

I work for a office furniture and supply store. I have a sit/stand desk at work, and find myself sitting and standing about equal amount of time. They can be costly, but there is a veridesk, that is lighter on the pocket book. The standing helps with the circulation, which is why people who use these seem to feel better.

If you sit at a desk, get up and walk around if you can at least 2 times a day. I work in warehouse where I sit until we need to do a pick in the warehouse, but there are days when its quire a few hours before we do anything, so I get up and walk around in the warehouse, helps.

Pre standing desk I'd drink copious amounts of water. Have to pee every hour or so. Forced me to get up plus I'd be ridiculously hydrated. Win-win.

This right here. 2 hours in a chair is quite taxing. Lots of water, lots of peeing, walking to the bathroom on the other side of the building. And, of course, making prolonged, direct eye contact with whoever occupies the adjacent toilet. Some of those gals really squirm.

We just got these at our office. Everyone has one. At first a bunch of folks, including me, stood most of the day. Now most of us sit for 80% of the day. But it's nice to easily adjust the height of the desk while sitting. And if you need to collaborate over a plan or something, its nice to be able to stand and look over it, rather than having it normal desk level.

We installed new office furniture last summer and we went with the standing desks. Cant speak to productivity or anything, but my back sure does like it. I read recently that sitting is the new smoking in terms of depredation to long term health. Our bodies just weren't built to sit all day.

Edit - Sit/Stand desks

If you can do it more often, the better.....point I'm making is get your ass off the chair, you don't need to being sitting for hours on end, its not good for ya...is that more clear?

This is what I've seen in every office that converted to standing desks. At first everyone is standing 50% of the day, after 6 months people are standing 0-20% depending on person. It is nice to have the option though.
