What does everyone think about the new tiny house craze? Watching HGTV tonight and watching these folks look for tiny houses was interesting. Living in a "house" that is 100-250 sq. ft. is interesting. The concept is interesting to me but not realistic in many ways as well.
I have designed hundreds of homes and done even more remodel design jobs. It's difficult to get someone what they want in a house with 1400 sq. ft. on the main level. These people are planning to live on 10% of that. No debt is great but having a "home" is important to me too. And the thought of "moving" some of these homes is hilarious too, a big diesel truck would be all that would move them. I really wonder why they don't just buy a camper if they want to move it around at all. $15,000 gets you plenty of camper that is actually designed to be pulled.
Don't get me wrong, I love having a smaller footprint and using green materials. I simple, small contemporary design using SIPS and solar would be an ideal house for me (plus a three car garage LOL). But, I just can't wrap my head around living in 150 sq. ft. Curious if I'm the only one.
