Sure is messing with my yard. But any way found it in back yard by the mounds with a couple ribs sticking out. Looks li 20180927_175642.jpg20180927_175642.jpg20180927_175642.jpgke it was crushed by the jaws of my lab but like i said she hasnt been out there. Vole. Get rid of those buggers before the snow flies or you will have a mess in your yard next spring!

Damn, these things move in quickly each fall. I'll be out there planting smoke bombs this weekend to asphyxiate them and then rake up the dirt to spread out over the area. Makes for a crappy mowing job, if not. Went from zero mounds to a dozen of them since my last mowing job 10 days ago. ;:;banghead

Busy time of year for those pocket gophers. Stocking up on roots for the winter.

Voles will eat rat/mouse poison. Put it inside a pvc pipe to keep dogs from eating it tho. I put it out 3/4 places in the fall, for the last few years, and its helped a lot with my voles.

Pocket gopher," a vole is about the size of a mouse" if you looks close to his face he has big pockets on each cheek. I get them all the time, trap them out as fast as I can before they establish tunnel systems to hell and back. If the mound is very small I can usually flush them out with about 2-3 5 gallon buckets of water down the hole once it is exposed then a whack or stomp.
Some of them are pretty smart when it comes to traps, i have about 4 different types if they push the normal gopher traps full of dirt. Just got a monster out of my yard last week, one of the biggest ones I ever saw and the size of the mounds reflected it too.
I had on bite me a couple times earlier this summer as i was exposing the hole, thought I was poked by a root the first time then he got me good the second time and came out of the hole after me lol, he got stabbed in the skull with the big screw driver i poke around with to find the tunnel.

Had voles in one of my yards about 10 years ago, little bastards will wreck it in no time. One tunnel turned into a yard full in no time!

Yep pocket gopher hate those bastards. If you look in the pictures, that's what happened to the last one I had in my yard this year.

In the spring when the snow melts out of the ditches you see a lot of dirt rolls, this is done when the pocket gophers dig tunnels in the snow and fill them up with dirt. Quite neat to to see and think how active they are tunneling throughout the winter as well.
