But the prefish and dog kennel stringer shit will continue, need a way to eliminate that as well, even on the local level tourney, this is happens more than you know, so why even fish a tourney...its no fun anymore....everybody out for blood, nobody is better fisherman then the next guy, jesus L...fish to put food on the table guys. What happens when you put up thousands to win.....greed takes over not sportsmanship

I'm a fan of the Major League Fishing format. Fish weighed by judge and released immediately. The only change I would consider is not revealing bag weights to the anglers until a "weigh in".

This was the most rudimentary way of cheating you could do. What baffles me is everyone is saying they’d been suspected for years and this is the first time the fish got cut open? I haven’t heard 100%, but it sounded like someone had similar sized fish and called BS. Fish usually are relatively consistent in weight and size so I’m surprised this hasn’t come up before.

I’d just listened to the Bigwater Podcast with the tournament director. He also runs the fall brawl. Just too much money involved and it makes all sorts of people do stupid shit. The guys who got caught won the fall brawl a few years ago but one failed the lie detector. When fishing comes to that, I think we need to re-assess why we’re having events like that.

They were banned for quite a few years the kid was like 14 at the time the weights he put in were pretty small like 1oz and they weren’t even in the top 100 but either way cheating is cheating. Good thing is it brought about a rule change that makes each team accountable for their fish now, and they also can’t just keep their fish you can get your fillets after they are cleaned and inspected. Lots of rumors at fishing tournaments I think the classic does a pretty good job of keeping it legit.

I agree these guys are thieving, dishonest, POS scum. But what’s the criminal charge? Is this really considered theft? Can someone that cheats at a poker tournament be criminally charged? Someone that gets caught cheating at a casino? Sunday bingo? I honestly don’t know the answer. I don’t see any game laws broken except for maybe possession limits with them fillets depending on where they are (and likely not if it’s a two man team). If there’s a civil suit from other anglers competing or from tourney organizers, great. But criminal conviction seems a stretch. With that said, it’s almost no doubt that guys with these types of morals are also breaking game laws.

People involved in a niche typically vastly over glamorize what people outside the niche think. That video can have 10 million views from anglers and everyone will have the same “that’s messed up” thought. But outside the small community of people that fish tournaments, the vast majority of fishermen have never even looked at a tournament weight and don’t really care what happens to these guys unless actual game laws were broken.

I could care less what happens to these guys anymore that if some team that’s been winning Mcquades for 10 years was caught using illegal bats, for example. Figure it out within the little community of the people that care and keep my tax dollars out of it. Especially keep the very limited fish and game enforcement time and money out of it during the busiest time of year. I’d rather see tournament fishing go the way of the Dodo Bird than see much of any amount of our public resources go into enforcement of these types of things.

I am guessing here, but fraud seems to be the legitimate charge. They fraudulently presented fish of a given size with their weight being altered by unnatural means for financial benefits. Not unlike rigging a lottery with weighted pingpong balls to alter the probability of that being in the winning number.

Whether a state's attorney sees this as an equivalent to the rigging of a lottery, I guess we shall find out.

I'm pretty sure cheaters in fishing tournaments have been caught and charged in the past. I think it's theft by deception, or gaining money through fraud. I'm sure the lawyers out there know.
