Anyone have one? or thinking of one?

I bet most of us old coots started hunting deer with a lever action. I had a Winchester 94 in 25/35.

I'd much prefer a Savage 99, BLR, or Marlin pretty much in that order. Actually, if I HAD to use a lever or REALLY got the itch I'd probably find myself a Sako FinnWolf or would slum a Win 88.

I won a Henry 22LR 4-5yrs ago that hasn't made it out of the box yet..........

Ahh the Savage 99. Yup missed one in 250 a lot of years ago. They had a special anniversary run and H of E in GF had one in that sat in the rack for maybe a month or so. Anyway I went and looked at it a couple of times. When I finally decided to pull the trigger it was gone. So you are welcome to kick my ass anytime. You don't even see nice ones anywhere.

Here it is and in 1980 new for maybe 300 to 400

I sold 2 or 3 of the 1999 Centennial commemorative models when I was still working @ a gun shop in college. IIRC they were $1700-$1800 and in great demand.

One can still find the birch-stocked models in 243 or 308 for ~$600ish.

Jiffy, imagine obtaining a '99 in 284Win and stoking it W/162's.................

Retract your Ewwww.

Given that the 6.5CreedMoor is based upon the 250 Savage case, I wonder how the 'ol 99 might sell if re-introduced in 6.5 CreedMoor??

Hunted with a 99e 250/3000 back in the 1960. Dad's cousin also had one in 22HP that he hunted deer with. Worked and shot fine.

Back in 1974 a hardware store had one which was their 75 anniversary model. I must of look at that for a few months debating to buy and finding the monies to purchase. Finally, i felt i could afford but it was sold. Wanted it in the worse way.

So i still would like to get but same issue today and that being monies. Back then i believe it was around $450 and today maybe around $1500. There are cheaper guns (maybe) that i would like that i hunted with like a model 100 Win in 284. So got old and still same issue.

As it is, the rifle would not be on top of the list to hunt with but that is not why one owns one or at least this one. Would be nice just to have compare to these new rifles with the new calibers still based off the old bullets. Want speed, just get yourself a 220 swift in a pre 64 model 70 and do reloads. All around, a 30 odd 6 from 1906 and the list goes on with calibers made before i was born.
Rifles and calibers are in the eyes of the beholder. db

Bought a used 94 30-30 about 25 years ago. Probably haven't put 2 boxes of ammo through it. I did shoot a couple of pigs in Texas one trip. Never have hunted anything else with it. I love all of those old lever actions. The museums full of them get my juices flowing.

You need to make a trip to Boone’s Fine Guns in Isle MN on the SE corner of Lake Mille Lacs. You’d spew juices from every orifice.

I was in there last July, they had a Remington 788 22-250 for 799.00 and was maybe 90%. Just seems very high to me.

They’re like every other shop, some stuff you can’t get your $$ out quick enough, some stuff you scratch your head.

The 788 being an early American bolt action with a removable magazine (clip) has a strong following in the land of gun cases and empty internal mags. Lots of nostalgia for the 788 in the Land of 10K Laws.

The depth and breadth of Boone’s collectable gun inventory is exceptional.

I picked up a early 243 788 with the 24 inch barrel and two mags at Scheels here in Fargo last Feb for 429.00 and in very good condition.

I have been picking up rifles for a few years now and have a 99 in 300 Savage a 94 in 32 Winchester and 788 in 22-250. Also a bunch of old rimfires in pretty much any make or model. Pretty sure these "old" rifles will keep up with any of my newer customs as far as accuracy and build quality goes. The old ones are probably a little clunkier but accuracy wise shoot just as well as my new rifles. Also have a 770 Winchester in 06 that I would like to get fitted to my wife. Any of you guys have much time behind one of these? Would I be better off leaving it alone and getting her something else?

That doesn’t mean they don’t bring a lot more in central MN. Lots more 243’s than 22-250’s as well.

Where else can you find racks FULL of Savage 99’s, Browong T-Bolt, Trombones, Safaris, and Superposed? Win 21’s, 23’s, 24’s, 12’s, 66, 73, 86, 70’s, 92’s, 94’s? How about thousands of boxes of collectable ammo?

IMHO: Any levergun not dependent upon rim headspace is superfluous as accuracy negates effective range and design requires a homely appearance. I'm aware of available mods. A proper levergun handles like a fitted scattergun and kills out to 200yds. Fuck a damn peep sight--Alvin York;)

And I agree. Why would the military require you require you to engage from a tiny gd hole under fire?!!-- Govt retardation.

Enlarge the hole and provide a red dot...more bullshit. Infantry should be trained in a blend of shotgun shooting and slow fire. With '03 or '47 sighting.
