Hunted with a 99e 250/3000 back in the 1960. Dad's cousin also had one in 22HP that he hunted deer with. Worked and shot fine.
Back in 1974 a hardware store had one which was their 75 anniversary model. I must of look at that for a few months debating to buy and finding the monies to purchase. Finally, i felt i could afford but it was sold. Wanted it in the worse way.
So i still would like to get but same issue today and that being monies. Back then i believe it was around $450 and today maybe around $1500. There are cheaper guns (maybe) that i would like that i hunted with like a model 100 Win in 284. So got old and still same issue.
As it is, the rifle would not be on top of the list to hunt with but that is not why one owns one or at least this one. Would be nice just to have compare to these new rifles with the new calibers still based off the old bullets. Want speed, just get yourself a 220 swift in a pre 64 model 70 and do reloads. All around, a 30 odd 6 from 1906 and the list goes on with calibers made before i was born.
Rifles and calibers are in the eyes of the beholder. db
