One step closer to the end.
Land owners are just like hunters , we all have a memory. It just takes one time to be shit on by one or the other and all of a sudden we become our worst enemy for opening more land to hunt it only takes one out of hundreds to make it happen. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.it is what it is. Ndgf changed the gratis deadline so I missed out this year but my land is still going to be hunted by my neighbors. If you don't have an in it's tough,I get that but taking the gratis license away if you don't own land isn't a good option for non land owners .
I totally agree with the landowners and memory.

I have had that happen to me twice when asking to hunt a new property. "We used to let hunters on our property but "one time" this is what a hunter did . ...."

Money was allocated away from Pitt-Robertson and given to non-profits
Fritz your absolutely right. Hunters wanting to support the species they hunt asked for the 11% excise tax. When the non hunters began using politicians to steal that money sportsman through other politicians proposed an 11% excise tax on other outdoor activity equipment way back in the early 1980s. The other "outdoor enthusiasts" lost their mind over that. It's always the hunters that put their money where their mouth is.

I have said for years one bad apple, hunter or landowner, creates 100 fold enemies. I wish someone had some idea how to stop it, but I fear both will severely damage each other.

Thinking all one can do is treat the landowners that let you hunt like they are your friend, which they really are. Kindness and real gratitude is rewarded. I am amazed with the landowners hospitality. I often get unsolicited scouting reports and photos of game on their property. One spring one of my landowners asked me if it was okay it he took his son out turkey hunting in his woods. I kid you not. LOL I am truly blessed.
And no I do NOT lease the properties I hunt on.

The reason for this is because everything has changed from 30 years ago. 30 years ago, people used to come help the farmer/rancher during branding time or help fix fence in the spring/summer. People would come help with harvest. You see minimal to NONE of that anymore. Everyone just wants to show up the day before deer season and expects the red carpet rolled out! When the last time you saw or heard from them was a year prior before deer season :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Also, the Government Subsidies is a very slippery slope. The price to the consumer will increase 300%+ on any and all foods. Good luck feeding a family of 4 when a box of 16oz pasta is $14 and milk is $11/gal. That's the entire reasoning for the Government Subsidies when it pertains to Agriculture is to keep food "reasonably priced" for the consumer.
Wrong… so so wrong.. and you trying to scare and lie to people is ridiculous.

“I do think there are some opportunities that would improve the gratis system, like tying it to farm income in addition to the acreage requirement”

how so? anybody know wtf he’s talking about here?
Farmers to qualify for the lower tax rate on ag equipment must make 50% or more of their income on the farm as farm income. Guessing he is trying to tie it to land owners that use the land as a living, rather than fellas like you that are land barons and sneaking tags out of the system...haha

From those land owners out there that have had something happen. Could you give me some examples? Did they leave a gate open etc...

Gates, adjusting fences for "easier deer crossing" without permission whic cause issueswhen cattleare in, leaving trash behind, putting up box blinds/towers and homemade tree stands everywhere without permission, bringing in others like relatives without landowner permission, hunting over neighbors property they don't have permission, suspect (no 100% proof here) of shooting multiple deer without tags, telling landowner where they are allowed to hunt on their own land, driving where not supposed to.

This probably isn't good enough for any of you but this is off the top of my head of our issues over the years

Ita not about good enough..its your land and all that matters is it pissed you off. I was just looking for some understanding. My next question..is any of this stuff addressed prior to allowing access? To me this is common sense and shouldnt need to be said..but just laying out some of the rules prior to letting hunt just in case you have a dumbass?

Not where I'd like to be
As the person asking permission to hunt someone else's land, the onus is on you to ask all the right questions to make sure you don't piss the landowner off.
When I ask for permission to coyote hunt, I have a mental checklist I through with the landowner.
- Is it ok if I'm out there in the dark?
- Is there any time of day or time of year you don't want me out there?
- Is there any part of the property you don't want me on?
- Is it ok if I bring a couple buddies with me?
- Is there any place you don't want me to park?
- Etc.

See my examples already weren't good enough, you asked for examples and I gave some to you. Your reaction is to paint it to it is the landowner fault that they got taken advantage of.
We didn't know we had to have a 50 page rule book. If you allow me into your house and I decide to go into your fridge and grab some leftover food, use your plates silverware and microwave what would you think? There is also common sense on the person with permission for hunting, maybe they should ask before doing as well.

When i ask for permission it is generally for duck or goose hunting. Make sure they know how many is in the group and if its ok. If there is a certain place they want me to go into and exit the field. If its for deer hunting in my mind permission is just for me or if i ask if i can bring my son.

I always ask where do they want me to park.
I too always let them know it will always be me and gave them photos with license plates of my truck.

One of my landowners I always hang a sign in my window with my last name on it. His neighbors know me too so they all know when I am out there.
