Wont happen. I could see him maybe forgiving interest or moving the interest accrual out again.

I watched a guy on You-Tube ask E Warren if he could get his money back that he paid for his daughters college. She is a Sr. and he saved and saved, and his kid worked since she was 10 so that they could afford it and not have any debt. Of course she said no. He said why should his friends kid get his kids loan forgiven? He spent his money on cars and vacations, didn't save, while making more money than him. She had no answer.

Its called bailing the worthless people out by punishing those that know what personal responsibility means.
I paid my student loan off --- why should have to pay for someone else's?????? F THAT.

mine will be paid off sometime in the next decade or so. at 3% interest, i resigned myself to the long haul.

no fucking way should debt just be forgiven. and no reason for me to repeat the dozens of reasons why. i will say this though: if there is one reform that could be done in the student loan department it would be to make them subject to the same bankruptcy laws as most other debt . i've never quite figured out why student loan debt is treated differently in that regard. maybe if the lenders faced the same consequences as every other lender did for making bad loans, we wouldn't see billions in student loans handed out on a yearly basis for soon to be worthless degrees or to people who have little chance of even eventually getting a degree.

Im not a fan of this policy, secondary education SHOULD require sacrifice, not be a 'benefit' or entitlement...

We paid off $160K of student debt in 3.5 years while we watched all of our friends buy houses, go on vacation, and buy new vehicles and toys. Now those people will get a check in the mail. What an absolute slap in the face. I can't express how fucking angry this makes me. I get it Migrator Man is joking, but it makes me so angry that if someone said that to my face, I would likely come absolutely uncunted. Like pull a weapon and use it type of angry. How are the military folks feeling that sacrificed to get college paid for? I'd suggest folks getting their student loan checks tread pretty lightly around the military and working class that just had a fat pile of shit thrown in their face. Just dividing this country more and more by the day to buy votes.

It almost makes me just as angry that the republican party hasn't even proposed putting an end to this shit and just lets the colleges charge whatever they want and lets unknowing student take as much federally-insured debt as they want. At least put an annual limit of like $10K of federally-insured student debt. I bet you would see colleges lower prices and clean up their fat real quick. Don't count on it though. Crooks. The complacent ones in DC are almost just as much to blame.

I'm happy to give a portion of my military retirement to a Harvard gender studies communist.

Something needs to be done. I was kicking and screaming for it to happen when Trump had the majority for two years. It should've been done then. No one is doing a single thing to fix the problem. I'm not even seeing recommendations. It's crazy IMO! All the republican politicians complaining today that were in their positions in 2017 and 2018 should keep their mouth shut because they did NOTHING when they had the chance. The university system is out of control and everyone knows it. I see 3 options.

1. eliminate federally insured loans altogether and make people apply for loans through the private sector. If you have good grades and a legit career field picked out, the market (banks) will reward you and invest in you. Set a maximum interest rate and parameters to help prevent prejudices. If you're going into some BS, you better have mommy and daddy to fund you.

2. Allow a max of $10-15K federally insured for two years and then apply for loan through private sector for the remainder. That gives people like me who screwed off in HS a couple of years to establish good grades at the college level and show you're working toward a legit major before having to apply for additional school funding.

3. Allow max 10-15K federally insured for a maximum of 5 years unless you're enrolled in a post-graduate degree. Then extend the term and increase the amount to something like $25K.

All of those options would require colleges to trim down substantially. And then departments getting the axe would be the ones that are not needed. We would get to a point where only a handful of schools would offer gender studies, left-handed puppetry, and/or toilet paper math as a major. None of this will happen. Tuition just went up another $10,000 for next year. In two years before the next election, expect it to happen again.

Student-Loan-Debt-Growth-Relative-to-Student-Borrowers.png

The issue is above ------- the solution is a complete overhaul of our schools. Including k-12

Passing the debt onto the taxpayers (or borrowing it from China) should not be an option. Never forget this bs.

My bro lives out west ---- they took a public school 11 and 12th grade and pushed the kids to EWU to finish hs/start college. EWU tuition is similar to NDSU--- tax savings per kid vs public schools was over 10k a kid per year. Kids only had 2 or less years and they were rady to get into the work force. We dont need hschools teaching ap classes -- -send em.

Its going to take another party to take over the two parties that act like one.

Well for those of you with debt or kids with debt, remind them that this 10k gets taxed at the end of the year as regular income. Just make sure you dont get caught with your pants down and owe the IRS more!!
