And I don't know about you guys, but my boat goes faster when there's 3 fat guys, loaded livewells, and a full tank of gas in it, than when its empty and I'm by myself.

Not in my case. My boat is so weight sensitive. There isn't much of a drop in speed between just me or having an extra person in there. But fill both livewells and I'll lose a good 3 mph. Put about 30 pounds of extra tackle up front and I'll go from running 69 to barely hitting 65.

1999 lund tyee 1850 w/ a 135 optimax. best was 45 but usually around 42. I dont feel a big need to go faster but it would be nice to make long runs at about 40 mph without running WOT. However, she is paid for and does the job just fine.

That's the biggest difference I notice going from an AL boat w/150 4-stroke to a glass boat w/200. I can run 6-7MPG FASTER in the glass boat that's 600# heavier w/50 more HP for the same mileage I used to get in the AL boat. I can run 40MPH getting 3.8-4.0MPG and to get that with my AL boat I used to run 32-34MPH. Both boats get 2.7-3.0MPG @ WOT but now I'm running 50-53 vs. 42-45. I suspect most of this is due to a more efficient hull.

Slow down for what!?!

- - - Updated - - -

I hit the rev limiter a couple times airing out the big boat and I ended up losing one of my favorite rods. I found out I am not cool enough to do such things.

In all seriousness, it only takes doing this once in a blue moon for me to realize why I need to slow eff down.

I have an etec 150 and with 87 no e I run 2 to 3 mph better than 91. If it's hotter out side the difference decreases

I spoke with a pretty highly regarded merc mechanic some time ago about running 91 octane through an optimax and he said that it would burn too hot and have a good chance of hurting the engine. Maybe it's different in an etec?

Along with temperature affecting speed, elevation will have the same effect. Higher elevations equal slower speeds.

The earth is hurtling along at a modest 66,600 mph - so arrowdem is exaggerating by a factor of 15.

Typical fisherman.
