Dead up north, but a nice day out. :)

Yep, I saw a few boats, and heard of nary a fish. Saw a couple decent pike by the wing-walls, but there are a lot of smelt floating around, and no fish to eat them.

Well by the looks of some of the reports I've been getting it was a bad day to be a walleye on the river. Seen three man and five man limits and the fish looked nice!

I have reports of limits to just a couple fish. I'm surprised though. I thought it'd be slow but the water temp must be higher than I thought.

We put in at the rifle range. One 17" walleye and one northern not much bigger. Lunch for today anyway. Pulling cranks up stream.

We ended up going north. Two fish. We found them, they just wouldn't bite. Sounds like we should of headed south.

Did fairly well tonight from shore. We were getting bites about every third cast around sundown. Nice to be out on the sand beaches with the long rods once again. Fish look very good with lots of fat getting back to the football shaped walleyes that the Missouri river fish should look like.

I caught a pair of 17 inch eyes going south of Bismarck yesterday, along with a couple small northerns.

Great day to be on soft water!

This is true. Had a buddy out Friday and Saturday with 2-3 man limits. Even managed a 27.5" that weighed 10.4lbs.

Kind of figured there'd be lots of 17-18" fish in the system this year as there were lots of 15-16" last year and that seems to be the case from the reports I'm hearing.

27.5 that weighed ten pounds? Is that even possible?

I saw the picture....wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't. Don't know if they measured the girth, but that thing looked like a pot belly pig. It's going on the wall.

Gizzard Shad.
That and crappies. That's one good part about a late freeze up and early Ice off is the shad should really make a comeback now. It's nice to see oahe getting a more well rounded baitfish selection over just smelt. Now with big numbers of bass, crappie, shad and lake hearing to go along with the smelt it should really help to take some of the boom and bust nature out of oahe.

The buddy I fished with last night was crazy enough to go back out this morning at sunrise and surprisingly the bite was still on. He picked up four in about an hour and a half till he got too cold and packed it in.
