So sorry. I don't know if there's anything that equals the unconditional love of a dog. It's really to bad we don't get the pleasure of their company for longer periods of time.

Sorry to hear man. One of the toughest things I've had to do. Our lab was 8 and ended up with cancer. Still miss that dude, he was an awesome dog.

Sorry to hear. As so many have said, this is not an easy decision, but based on the "quality of life" talk that one vet had given me, it did make the decision a little easier, as my dog did no longer have to suffer.

Thanks D we really needed this. So true but so many great memories!

- - - Updated - - -

Zoey got much worse after dinner today. Called the vet and made an appointment for 3:30 to put her to sleep. Loved her up all day and by 3:40 she was gone to the happy hunting ground in the sky. I am sure she is in a much better place without pain and suffering. I know it was the right and the best thing to do for her but i am being selfish and wish i could have had her much longer!
I have been so blessed in my life to have great pets, great family, and of course great friends and i cherish the time we have shared together.
I hope someday we can meet each one of you and if not thanks for being here.
Thanks for all the kind words and prayers everyone it is much appreciated and needed!!!!!!

Sorry for your loss I have had to put 2 pups down one of old age the other from a seizure. Neither were easy decisions but you can't let them suffer. Prayers to your family. Try to think about all the good times you had.

My sincerest condolences on your loss BBJ. Went down that road a couple months ago and I was in shreds. I don't have any mystical or theological words that would ease the difficulty. My only solace was loving him enough while he was here and loving him enough to let him go. Got something in my eye now, hang in there, it will be better.

What can I say? Just take some time and write a story about the life you two have had. Ten years from now the tears will still flow but the memories will be priceless. John, I feel your pain.

So very sorry to hear. Had to put down our black lab in August. Hardest thing I've done in my life. Still kiss her picture everyday. Condolences to your family.

Sorry for your family's loss. :( I know it is hard, but be assured you made the right decision, as it was the best, so Zoey did not suffer. Its been 9 years since we had to make that difficult decision for Rusty, our first lab. Still think about him, especially when I hunt the places that I used to hunt with him. Gunnar just turned 9, and over the last 6 months he is starting to show some age, he is going to the vet Friday for a check up, just because.

Sorry to hear.

Might be nice to pick up a pet from the nearest humane society - if only because you don't have to go through the puppy years. It hurts to have to let them go too, but you'd be offering a life to a pet who might have been wronged once already a second chance and really grow to love them. Let them go is hard, but they'all never forget how great a life you gave them.

So sorry to hear this. It is very hard to let go. Lost my springer 7 years ago she was 14 she had a great life. I shed tears every time I read these threads. But it brings back all the happy memories she left behind. Thanks Dakota.

I'm truly sorry for you and your families loss BBJ, it really hurts when its time for your best friend to go on without you. While I know it's for the best, I always feel helpless and empty when they leave me behind, I worry about them and hope they're doing ok without me.

RIP Zoey, look around and see if you can spot Fred, Lew, Brown, Whammer and the new friends they have to play with, they'll make you feel welcome and not so alone.

I understand not wanting to get another dog because of the hole they leave in your heart when they have to go on without you. I think the great ones that make a difference in your life are the ones you miss the most because they were there when you needed them the most. I can't imagine not having a dog they make life so much better.
