Welp, Sam made it home to our place on Friday night. Needless to say, he's a good boy. Super friendly, sometimes a lil too friendly. He humps EVERYTHING. Literally 5 minutes after picking him up and heading down the road he had the floor mat of the crate balled up and was going to town on it.... Luckily our two girl dogs at home are fixed so no worries there. Got an appointment with the groomer for tomorrow to get him all brushed up and bathed. I did sit and brush him for about 30 minutes on saturday morning. As soon as he saw the brush he came and sat right in front of me like he knew the drill. Got enough hair off him to make a couple more Golden Retreivers! I have some video that I'll get posted up when I get a chance. My Lab and Boxer love him. From the minute we let them out to play with him it's like they were old pals.

Once we have had him groomed we will be letting him come in the house. Right now he hangs out in the garage. Going to get an appointment for him to get fixed as well. Don't know if he has much for hunting instincts, but I'll find out this fall. He definitely loves to be around his people..... And the girl dogs.... he reeeeeaaaallllly likes the girl dogs.....

Sam is going to spend the rest of his days here at our place as a bit of a hybrid inside/outside dog. He will for the most part be outside, helping to protect our chickens. He will have full time access to our heated garage, and if I know my wife at all, once he is fixed and gets all his humping outta the way, he'll probably end up being an 80# lapdog in the house....

I'll be sure to put up some more pics and videos when I get a chance. Don't mind the mess in the pictures, our house is still a work in progress!

Just a fyi but fixing wont change the humping. My one lab i did that to humped more than any of my dogs kept in tact. Our little dog who is neutered also does a fair amount of humping. Its some thing that can be addressed like other bad habits

He is a very smart dog. Whenever he does try to mount one of the girls I just tell him "Sam No" and he immediately stops. My hope is that getting him fixed will help to tone down the instinct a little bit. I'm sure just having more time around them will also help settle him down a bit. They are new to him so he's excited lol.

Edited to add- The other part of getting him fixed is that he's eventually going to have free range of the property. I don't need him going over to the neighbors and knocking up any of their dogs lol.

Thanks for the update Sir.

What's wierd is, I've been around Sam since he was a little pup and have never seen him hump anything.
You sound happy with him and I'm confident you'll do great together.
Can't wait to see him bathed n groomed. He's got a really good/ muscular frame.

Humping may be due to stress and tryimg to place his dominence on everything due to the stress. My guess Petra will have it under control. Time, neutering , and correcting action should take it down to a minimum..

Definitely happy with him! He is for sure a big muscular dog. Doesn't appear to be much excess weight on him if any. I think he's just a big framed, muscular dog.

I think he's starting to adjust pretty well as he finally ate last night. First 48 hours he didn't have much interest in food at all. Last night he ate well. I think Fester hit the nail on the head with the comment about asserting dominance. He definitely postures up and tries to tower over the other two. They could give a shit less lol. They know me and my wife are in charge. Sam will figure it out with some time. For now we are just trying to make sure he has lots of time out in the yard with us to keep him occupied and exercised.

I'm a sucker for " good dog stories ".

I believe this will be one. Lol.

Alot of people miss out on the (finer) things in life like being around a well mannered dog that just wants too please and be loved!

Petras is a dog man. Knew it within seconds of meeting him.
He'll do well with Sam.
